ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Private investigator TJ Ward said presidential hopeful Herman Cain was not lying at a news conference on Tuesday in Phoenix.

Cain denied making any sexual actions towards Sharon Bialek and vowed to take a polygraph test if necessary to prove his innocence.

Cain has not taken a polygraph but Ward said he does have software that does something better.

Ward said the $15,000 software can detect lies in people's voices.

If that is so, then I wonder why law enforcement used this tool along with the polygraph. The CIA polygraphs all its employees. All just a waste of time???

I'd test it against one of Obama's SOTU addresses and see if the needle flops around like a freshly-caught fish.

Well, not just CIA. And yes, as an investigative tool polygraphs are pretty unreliable.

I agree about the worthlessness of polygraphs. A great proof of this is to list all of the spies in our CIA who were caught by polygraph tests.

None.

Even if Cain can be cleared, the DNC and the MSM will keep spinning the facts to keep perceptions of Cain's wrong doing alive.

Meanwhile the public endoscopy on poor Herman continues.

Aldridge Ames passed every polygraph he took for the CIA.

It's thise sort of BS that might have delayed Sarah Palin's commitment to run for President.

She is, for sure, one very smart person.

Polygraphs are not a waste of time.

They measure stress. But that’s all they measure.

You can have people asked offensive and/or uncomfortable questions and appear to have a stressful reaction that cna be “read” as lying.

Basically polygraphs are largely psychological. The guys running them talk to people beforehand and ask if there’s anything they want to get off their chest before doing the test, so that they’ll be able to pass without a problem. Most people just talk and reveal stuff before even taking the test.

It’s hype. It measures persperation, breathing rate, heart rate, and you can see when a person is stressed about a question. The “reading” and discussion about the response with the person being poly’d puts it in context. Problem is it’s not exact science and lots of people get angry or offended by certain questions and you get stress. If they’re hunting for someone to blame for something that’s stress on the person being questioned.

Honestly, I don’t need software to determine that he was telling the truth.

It was plainly obvious.

I’m guessing he’s using a Voice Stress Analyzer.

I called it a law enforcement “tool” not a 100% truth tester.

I’m sure you are right. A very ‘simplistic’ version of that program used to be available to ‘play’ with, but the program used to take a lot more processing power than most people had available, and it was a pure DOS program.

Then, suddenly, the program just disappeared. I’m sure you are right, because every political speech I was ever able to analyze peaked the ‘Dishonesty’ meter.

Polygraphs are not totally worthless, they are one source of data among many. Alone they are not reliable enough to be conclusive.

“It was plainly obvious.”

I agree.
And, if he is really a serial harassment artist then
you can bet he scored a few hits. Still waiting for
any of these one night stands to step-up.
