Penn State scandal dwarfs others in college sports
Miami Herald ^ | November 9, 2011 | Ralph D. Russo

Scandals of all kinds have tarnished college sports for decades, though what is unfolding at Penn State is hard to compare to any of them.

It's simply on another scale, both in terms of the charges - former Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky is accused of serial child sex abuse, which he denies - and the other person whom the case is bringing down, Joe Paterno.

The 84-year-old Paterno announced Wednesday he will retire at the end of this season, though the school's board of trustees might not let him coach even that long.

“Pure teaser.
There are no dwarfs or midgets anywhere in this story”. I hate when they do that . I took my son to see a giant tire blow out event. It turned out to be a tire sale. Very disappointing.

Maybe they should just cancel the rest of the season. I feel bad for the team players, but they’re already having to live with this.

Everyone feels dirty, except those who were in a position to do something about it at the time. Those faces will never be seen around town again.

If the NCAA doesn’t give Penn State the death penalty then they need to publicly apologize to SMU and give them a retroactive national championship and a few hundred million dollars.

I assume all the players are innocent, but I still think the game should be forfeited.

If I was on the team, I really don't know how I'd go out there and play a stupid football game with all this crap swirling around.

This isn't normal college football booster shenanigans - this is sick demented and weird. And it's just picking up steam.

The players should be allowed to transfer after this season, given the circumstances.

"This is like having a scandal in the White House. That's how big this is," said Beano Cook

Beano needs to read beyond the sportspages.

He could ask 200 dead Mexicans if the White House has any big scandals.

This whole Penn State sex abuse scandal is going to even more put into a bad light college football, at a time when we have been seen what I call “musical chairs” going on with college football programs going from conference to another.

The 8 victims ranged in age from about 8 to 13.

so a homo gets into the organization and does what homos do (in a much higher incidence rate then heteros)

to avoid any liability suits in the future, the solution would be to immediately fire all homosexuals.

that should solve the majority of the problems.

after that, deal with them on a case-by-case basis... with a large vat of boiling oil and a slow moving chain

GMTA. Get out of my head!

And that goes for Mike Leach who was railroaded out of Texas Tech. The Red Raiders have been ho-hum without him prowling the sidelines and his napkin-sized playchart.

....But than again, the White House considers 200 dead Mexicans, “no big deal”.

What makes it even sadder, is that, including me, many people , not even Penn State fans, thought of Penn State, under Paterno, as being different from all of those other programs...they played by the rules, they exemplified good values, etc......And now it appears, all of that was a sham. No wonder people become so cynical.

For a number of years, though I have always, always been first and formost a UConn Huskies football/basketball fan I had also supported had supported Penn State football, even friended it over at Facebook. When I went to western PA a number of years ago via Amtrack train, had a train stop in the home town of Penn State. It is a beautiful town in of itself. When I have first had heard about the news reports and development of this horrible scandal, it broke my heart.

I agree. And without penalty or sitting out a year.

Kids only have four, maybe five, years of their life to play college football. They shouldn't be forced to do it under the thunderheads brought about by a serial pedophile rapist and his enablers.

Besides, no new football players of any Division 1 quality are going to be coming into the program. They may as well mothball the program for three or four years and start again from scratch once all the trials are over.

Plus also, in the last few months, when as more other conferences were begining to lure Big East football teams to them, I was debating in my mine if UConn should go if the worse happens, to either the Big Ten or to the ACC. This Penn State football mess could cloud the reputation of the Big Ten.

I’m hoping this will create a backlash against those pushing the homosexual agenda on children. You can’t even turn on a sitcom these days without it being gay themed with child actors as part of the show. They think homosexuals prancing around is cute and cool and tolerant. Do they stop for one minute to let it sink in what it is that they do with each other before telling kids that it’s normal behavior. It’s kind of like how it’s a crime to murder a baby once it’s born but it’s A-OK to slaughter it while in the womb. Liberals have destroyed this country.
