Spanier was made aware in 2002 that a graduate assistant coach had seen former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky allegedly sexually assault a young boy in a shower in the Penn State locker room, according to grand jury testimony. Spanier did not involve police, according to testimony. Spanier has not been charged, but there have been many calls for his resignation.

Joe reported the unsubstantiated allegation immediately to the Athletic Director.......Joe fulfilled his obligation ... and kept quiet while Sandusky raped.
If true, getting Ridge there would be a good move.

There was an employee at my plant back in 2005 who was reported to the police by his young daughter's girlfriend claiming he had molested her. Andrew was arrested, thrown in jail and at his arraignment, the judge actually called him a monster and a threat to children everywhere.
After posting bail, hiring an attorney, being condemned by the folks in his community, ignored by his neighbors, it was finally discovered that the young girlfriend of his daughter was recruited by his ex-wife into making the false charge against Andrew in the hopes that he would be sent to prison and she would regain custody of the daughter........
That is why I am so adamant as to one having absolute proof of an alleged sexual crime before reporting it to the police. And that is why I am so adamant about Paterno's innocence in this scandal, especially when he immediately reported it to his superior, the Athletic Director........
Completely agree. There was enough smoke to indict Paterno if the prosecutor had asked the GJ for one.

PA law gives specific permission to report the incident even if you report it to your supervisor. Best to not talk out of your sphere of knowledge.

Everyone knew Sandusky raped little boys. What did Joe do? Nothing. Joe could have stopped Sandusky years ago but he didn't. How many boys were raped from the time Joe knew till he was finally stopped.
One would suspect that if Joe had said anything publically about a guy raping boys in the PSU football locker room it would have made the news ...
Since the various police agencies were investigating an incident that happened in the football bldg. locker room/s, it’s impossible to believe the detectives didn’t talk to Paterno or an underling that would surely have told Paterno in detail what/who they were investigating. Perhaps whether Sandusky should have been indicted in 1998 is debatable, but whether Paterno knew about Sandusky’s misbehavior with boys as early as 1998 is not. His “if only I’d known” excuse is ridiculous and sickening.
You are making a horrible mistake:
There is a big difference between overzealous, unwarranted prosecution and the requirements of a basic functional adult in getting law enforcement to investigate a credible and horrible accusation.
The miscarriage of justice you describe does not rest on the shoulders of those who brought law enforcement into the situation, it was the mistake of the law enforcers themselves. IN BOTH CASES, REPORT ALLEGED CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE TO THE POLICE.

If Paterno thought McQueary to be an unreliable witness, he sure showed it by hiring him.
If the police thought McQueary to be an unreliable witness, they sure showed it by basing their perjury charges against two administrators on McQueary’s testimony.
There was an eyewitness!
He went to his father who is a doctor!
There was a boy who needed medical attention, and evidence could have been taken to use against the rapist.
That window of opportunity was lost by grown men who did.....nothing.
Do you think that the GA who witnessed the rape should have talked to the police?
Even Joe Paterno has said he should have done more.
Two things bother me here the most. One, no one ever inquired about the victim. Two, Paterno had a meeting with the AD and the Senior VP days before talking with the GA who witnessed the crime. What was discussed in that meeting and why didn't they immediately talk to the GA?
It just looks like a cover-up at this point.
Well then, that sheds some more light on this doesn't it? Why haven't you condemned all those other "everyones" for their failure to report what was going on to the police? After all, you allege they knew about it......
And as a side note, just who are those "everyones" and if they knew about it, why are you singling out Joe Paterno???????
Of course he did because nothing was done. If it was me, and I reported to all the proper authorities and nothing was done, I too would feel guilty for not having done enough. Specifically, shooting the SOB myself.........
