I agree with you. In context, this is a trivial mistake. If I'm Cain, I restrict Block's media appearances but there's no way I fire him at this point. Block has done a pretty nice job up until this garbage and despite widespread criticism of the campaign's “handling” of the sexual harassment charges, Cain appears to be hanging in there. IMO firing Block right now would only play into the media's hand.

This is a little more than that. First we have Block blaming, without evidence, a Perry worker for breaking the harassment story, and now he claims to have verified a story that is simply false, at several levels.

Unless it turns out that Block was right, this is not just “one mistake” any more than doing 120 mph through a neighborhood is merely “speeding”.
