Incumbent Rose Marie Belforti on Tuesday won re-election as town clerk in Ledyard in a race that divided townspeople and drew national attention over her refusal to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples.
Belforti, a Republican, defeated Ed Easter, of Aurora, who launched a write-in candidacy some six weeks ago after learning of his opponents stance against the states recently passed Marriage Equality Act.
Belfortis position polarized residents in this mostly rural town of about 1,900 residents on the east side of Cayuga Lake. The township includes the village of Aurora, home to Wells College. By mid-afternoon nearly one-third of the towns 951 registered voters had cast their ballots at the town office building, an election official there said. In all nearly 500 residents had voted by the time polls closed at 9 p.m. The story was written about in The New York Times and The Huffington Post after it first appeared in The Post-Standard. The dispute also attracted national advocates from both sides of the issue.
GREAT NEWS!!!!! The LARGE MAJORITY is rejecting the SMALL minority in the media and Hollywierd that is pushing the ‘gay agenda’.
Good!
This town is within easy commuting distance to Ithaca. Coincidence? I don’t think so.
Glad she won reelection, but if this place were not home to Wells, and close to the City Of Evil this would have never been an issue.
What was the %?
GREAT NEWS!!!
Some good news, since I live in a state where voters believed the goonions scare tactics and voted to seriously cripple Ohio.
But at least we voted to free ourselves from Obamacare!
Wells College was originally paid for by Mr. Wells who owned Wells Fargo. He was no Liberal. Can’t say the same for the college, sadly.
And Harvard was actually founded by the Puritans.
YES!!!!!!
Good question. Since it does not say, I bet it was overwhelming in favor of her re-election.
Interesting since it’s just outside Ithaca, NY, that one FReeper calls ‘The City of Evil.’
It must have been better than the Bobby Jindal re-election a couple of weeks ago, almost totally ignored. The top Dem got 18%.
What’s so ironic about Harvard is that it was originally an expressly religious institution. Atheists would NOT have been welcome.
A lot more than just one!! I live near Ithaca, and I have the bumper sticker on each of my vehicles.

And the liberals think it's a hoot. Every time I shop at the Greenstar hippie co-op somebody asks me about it.
What makes Ithaca, NY so evil to earn the bumper sticker?
Jindal getting re-elected and now this victory? Wow! Conservatism is on the march!
This doesn’t bode well for Bammy and Co.
ah, but it’s beautiful country up there.
Maybe it’s you but I’ve seen your bumper sticker posted on here whenever there’s a story about the town.
That it is. God's Country. I love it up here.

Not me. You're thinking of "Behind Liberal Lines". He posts threads about Ithaca, and it was on one of those threads, with the pic of the bumper sticker, that I found the link to buy them. Here's his FReep profile page:
How about, it's been voted the most liberal city in America, for years had an openly avowed Socialist Mayor, was known in its early days as "Sodom" because of the activities of the residents, and numerous other atrocities? :)
See the link to Behind Liberal Lines' profile page in my comment above, for much more history. It's fascinating!
Thanks for the explanation. I doubt you could beat our illegal-alien loving, fag HIV testing billboard at every intersection, lib dominating, no English-speaking sh*thole called L.A...
