In the Garden State:

PolitiFact N.J.: Chris Christie claims Republicans will buck midterm trend

Published: Sunday, November 06, 2011, 3:45 PM

Even if they don't win a new seat, Republicans can still declare victory on Tuesday.

Gov. Chris Christie explained how in a recent radio interview. He said that during the last 48 years every governor in the midterm of his or her first term has lost seats in the Legislature, except Jim McGreevey in 2003.

PolitiFact New Jersey researched state election history and found the governor is right. Besides McGreevey, the last governor to pick up seats in a midterm election was Robert Meyner in the 1950s.

So if the Republicans don't get their clocks cleaned in New Jersey, they've done well.

I just voted.

The only thing worth noting is that quite a few of the Republicans in my Upstate New York district ran unopposed. At least half of them. The most race for the most powerful position, County Executive, had no opponent for the Republican incumbent.

Democrats didn’t even field candidates for many.

I don’t know if anything can be taken from that, but I don’t recall it happening in the past.

We voted on some local issues out here in my neck of the woods.

The Obamabots are out there.

The guy in front of me-rather loudly-said, “My name is so and so and I live at such and such and I’m a registered democrat! I can’t wait to vote for Barack Obama again in 2012!”

The polling personnel reminded him that we aren’t supposed to discuss parties and candidates at that particular location.

Of course, I had to chime in. “They call that electioneering, don’t they?”

HEAVY Turnout reported in Suburban Indianapolis for the Mayor’s race.

Local Media is already dropping hints about, AND LAMENTING ABOUT, the enthusiasm gap.

We have local elections here, along with a recall of a state rep. I voted in my school board race earlier.

The big race in Michigan is Paul Scott. He's up for recall because the teacher unions hate his guts. If he wins, it will send a big message that their days of control are coming to an end.

Very off year for NC, only mayor and city commissioners on the ballot where I live. I voted a little after 12:30 and the turnout was a bit better than expected due to the mayoral race being a real contest this time. I was thrilled to cast my vote for my very own husband, FReeper nnn0jeh, who is running for city commissioner.
Polls close in less than 1/2 hour. Hoping my dear one wins!

We had our local elections here in Suffolk Long Island. The main guy, who is always the main guy (I can never remember my district #) recognized me. We said “hello, again!”.

I said I feel like I'm always here and he mentioned how many times I will be there next year. I said “I may as well camp out here” and he said “occupy the election”. We giggled. He told me my district #....at the same time, a man was walking through and he said “follow that man”.

That man heard and stopped for me. We started talking. Long story short, he is a Bible based Christian. We spent some time talking after we put that stupid new card system in about how society was going downhill fast.

Just this morning, I posted a vanity about a commercial which appalled me.

I asked for some good wholesome, positive postings to get me out of my disdain. FReepers, of course came through.

Funny how I met a fellow Christian going in to vote after I posted my “vanity for sanity”.

This is going to go late into the night.
