About 50 minutes before it was about to begin, PSU administrators canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference Tuesday.
Penn State administrators have canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach.
Paterno's son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier's office.
Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.
Rocked by an alleged child sex abuse scandal, Penn State issued a statement late Monday saying that Paterno will only answer questions about football Tuesday during his regularly scheduled press conference.

After watching the way the media has handled this event its my opinion that the media knows Paterno will retire at the end of the year (his contract is up) and are in a hurry to get him fired before he retires.
I sense that the media knows they are less able to impact public opinion on the political front (note the Herman Cain attempts at lynching) so they have decided to show their virility by going after an 84 year old Joe Paterno who was going to retire after the last game of the season.
You are right on the money
And the4 taxpayers are still going to be on the hook for JoPa’s gazillion dollar a year salary and other perks.
Good gad. Would they even try to put that out if a coach had been caught raping female students? I don’t think so because they’d’ve been overrun with irate female protestors who wanted the perp and his enablers strung up from Old Main. Which makes we wonder, why the difference in responses....
Forget the defense costs. How about the jury verdicts in civil suits? Or are PSU and its employees immune from civil suits?
Really sad that a great coach may have been done in by a gay child molester hired by the state to be his defensive coordinator.
IMHO the grad assistant (McQuarry, and his Dad, who was with him when McQuarry told Paterno) should have reported it to the police immediately after reporting it to Paterno as it was done.
Remember this from 2010?
Gay, Progressive Fraternity Added to IFC (Penn State)
Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay and progressive men, has been added to the IFC.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) approved recognizing a fraternity for gay and progressive men Tuesday, which members hope will usher in a new era of collaboration between greeks and LGBT students.
IFC President Max Wendkos said the Delta Lambda Phi colony easily earned the minimum 2/3 of the chapter presidents’ approval required for recognition.
“It is always beneficial to welcome new and diverse viewpoints into any group,” Wendkos said. “We are excited for the opportunity that Delta Lambda Phi presents for the IFC to strengthen its relationship with the LGBTA community.”

Penn State University needs to drop the “S” and just be known as “P-U!”
fixed.
Hard to argue against that.doesn't he also fit in the desciption of what the law considers a "mandated reporter" with a duty to do so?
That doesn’t even totally fix it. If Paterno is done in, it’s his own doing. Or technically, horrifically irresponsible lack of doing.
IMHO McQueary should have AT LEAST called 911 IMMEDIATELY! It goes to the sad culture of PSU that every one from the janitors all the way up to the president protected Sandusky and allowed him to continue raping boys in Joe's locker room.
Paterno has a chance to be a stand up guy here. He should come clean, retire, and make a commitment to the victims in this to spend the rest of his days on this earth as their advocate.
How could he justify knowing the perp was on his campus years after the ‘98 event, or that the perp ran an organization to recruit kids, and not reporting it?
