In his 46 years on the job, coach Joe Paterno has never quite faced a crisis like the one now hovering over Happy Valley like a dark cloud.
Indeed, scandal has hit State College.
Retired Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been charged with sexually assaulting eight boys. Paterno's boss, athletic director Tim Curley, and another school administrator, face charges of perjury and failing to report to state and county officials that a witness told them he saw an alleged instance of abuse in 2002.
All at a tradition-rich school which proudly boasts the slogan "Success with Honor."
"If this is true, we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things, and we grieve for the victims and their families. They are in our prayers," Paterno in a statement issued Sunday evening by his son, Scott.
Suddenly, Paterno's Hall of Fame credentials are a mere afterthought. Or his 409 career victories a Division I record. Or the Nittany Lions' 8-1 start that has propelled them to a surprising two-game lead in the Big Ten Leaders Division.
There are much more serious questions to be asked.
"It's shocking and surprising that's it come up, and if it's true then the strongest penalty should be taken against anyone engaged in a cover-up. I think it really is a shame because it is one of the few things that tarnishes Penn State football," said Grant Brown, 18, a freshman from York, as he waited at a bus stop on campus.
Following a hastily-called meeting of school trustees Sunday night, the university accepted Curley's request to be placed on administrative leave to devote time to his defense. Interim senior vice president Gary Schultz will step down and return to retirement for the same reason, the school said.

Yea right, you have a degree and training to recognize sexual abuse.
Ok folks let’s keep my post in perspective. Yesterday if you read this guy was getting a prize for something and it said that he was married with kids would you say “oh that guy is homo so get him out of that school?” No you wouldn’t. We are finding out about this disgusting creature TODAY! That is my point. The poster was saying the school should never have hired him because he was homo. How the heck is the school going to know that this guy was going to rape 8 boys?
How can you keep a guy on when you know he is banging little boys.
Joe, the fish rots from the head, but I am sure Pedophillia U of penn, will enjoy the name change, they have earned it.
Of HAPPY VALLEY.
Here’s a little nugget from the indictment:
“Sandusky was investigated by university police in 1998 after a mother reported to them that her 11-year-old son had showered with Sandusky..........The university police detective advised Sandusky not to shower with a child again, and Sandusky promised he would not”
and:
“In March 2002, a graduate assistant stumbled upon Sandusky and a boy showering together at Penn State’s football facility....He saw a naked boy ... whose age he estimated to be ten years old, with his hands up against the wall, being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky”
And...sadly:
“The graduate assistant informed Joe Paterno the next day”
The serious question of homosexuality and pedophilia needs to be put front and center. The correlation is very high. There is plenty of sexual abuse of girls and young women, and that is an equally terrible crime. But when you look at the Catholic church issues, for example, it's not that they overlooked pedophilia - it's that they had adverse selection for homosexuality working in their priesthood. And that is tantamount to inviting pedophilia.
It seems to me that some of the same people who want to amplify the outrage over this Penn State situation are some of the same people who are advocating for gay marriage and rights of all sorts based on sexual orientation. And part of that argument is to say that gays are no different than anyone else, except for sexual preference. Well, then the issue of homosexual pedophilia comes up, doesn't it?
In for a penny - in for a pound - if you want to vent and attack Joe Paterno, be my guest, I carry no portfolio for the guy or the school. But also face the predominance of homosexuality in pedophilia and explain and acknowledge the relationship between the two.
How can you keep a guy on when you know he is banging little boys.
Well that is a totally different situation that HOPEFULLY it is found that the school really didn’t know about this. My brother and sister in law are Alma Maters of the school and even have a Penn State room in their home. Thankfully I graduated from Florida State University. :)
I couldn't find where that was posted.

They had tapes of him in 1998 telling a mother that he had molester her son. The case was dropped by the DA. Later the DA turned up missing and his body has never been found.
Hiding him for years is also the crime here.
See my #31. Also, according to testimony, the people that cleaned the showers had common knowledge of his 'behavior'. We know that they knew in 2002 yet still welcomed him to the 'facillities' and allowed him to continue molesting till 2009 when a public school coach called the authorities about him.
You should really read the indictment. It’s a fairly quick read with lots of details. The link was posted on an earlier thread.
The PA Attorney General had a press conference today and released a statement at http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/press.aspx?id=6277
It’s very likely that more boys will come out as this information gets more exposure.
From the statement today:
Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan had the following additional comments:
“This is not about a football team or a university; it is about child sexual abuse and the culture that allowed it to continue. These children are scarred for life.
Child sexual abuse is a serious crime and I assure you, the PA State Police will listen. If you or someone you know is a victim of sexual abuse, I leave you with three words: Nine - One - One.”

Oh wow! That is something. I guess this story is going to go on for a while. I didn’t know it went back that far or that a person is missing over this. I wonder if Ed Rendell has anything to do with this...../sarc.
Yes you are right. Clearly I thought this was a recent story where he molested the boys a month ago.....This obviously is a bigger story than even I first thought. Thanks. I am going to read this.

So he was a married homosexual with kids. So's 0bastard. Anyone molesting children deserves the death penalty. Too bad he won't get it. And those who covered up for him deserve it too. Too bad they won't get it either. My only solace is that Eternal Justice always is served, one way or another. Always.
He also made comments that it was about the culture at PSU and that he had never seen such a crime covered up like this before.
If one of Paterno’s players had one drink too many in a local tavern Joe Pa knew about it before the kid got back to the football dorm. In a town like State College nothing involving the football program passes unnoticed by Paterno. He knew and this was about keeping the Penn State brand name pure.
