Sharon Bialek, a woman employed by the National Restaurant Associations Educational Foundation in the late 90s, accused Herman Cain of inappropriate sexual contact today in a press conference with celebrity attorney Gloria Allred.
Bialek said she first met Cain when employed by the NRA as a manger of industry relations. She lost her job there shortly thereafter, and at her boyfriends suggestion, arranged to meet Cain in D.C. over coffee in 1997 to discuss her career. She told Cain what hotel she would be staying at; when she arrived, she had been upgraded to a suite, which she later found out had been through his doing, although she says she was not aware of that at the time. Cain also switched their meeting to a restaurant. After eating, Bialek said the two drove over to the National Restaurant Association headquarters; she assumed he would show her the offices.
He suddenly reached over and he put his hand on my leg, under my skirt, and reached for my genitals, said Bialek of what happened next. He also grabbed my head and brought it towards his crotch. I was very, very surprised and very shocked. I said, What are you doing? You know I have a boyfriend. This isnt what I came here for. Mr. Cain said, You want a job, right? I asked him to stop and he did. I asked him to take me back to my hotel, which he did, right away.
Bialek said she told her boyfriend and another friend that Cain had been sexually inappropriate to her at the time, but said she had not detailed what occurred.
Bialek, identified by Allred as a registered Republican, said she saw Cain again about a month ago at a Tea Party conference in the Chicago area. She asked him if he remembered her. He acknowledged that he remembered me from the foundation, but he kind of looked uncomfortable, Bialek said. He said nothing as he was whisked away for his speech by his handlers.
As noted, before the press conference began, the Cain campaign put out a statement saying the allegations were completely false.
Glad you're here!
I’m not wild about Cain either, but he’s more conservative than the rest of the field.
What’s pathetic is we can’t get a conservative to run for President.
His tax plan blows - it’ll end up raising taxes. He’s a kindergartener when it comes to foreign policy.
Perry? No thanks, and no time to restate the many, many reasons why he won’t work.
Romney? He’s the guy the democrats want, and the Father of Obamacare.
Gingrich, says whatever he’ll need in order to win. Posing with Pelosi over Global Warming shows he slept through his math and science compulsories in college and never looked back. Probably the least of all the evils.
One thing you may be able to say about Gingrich: He won’t be rolled like the rest of them.
So, if you are refocusing, you might share your locus of points upon which we might do that.
I have a question.
You’re from Virgina. Do you think Allen might have been a pretty good President? Would he have been a more effective candidate than say, McCain? A better President than Obama?
Macaca.
That ‘did him in’ somehow. Clinton RAPES a woman, but macaca does in Allen, and you think the Press has no hand in helping the idiots on the right pick their patsy for the general election? You think its nonsense, that there is nothing to it?
I think that particular point of view you hold may be a tad naive.
I think it's just another case of the left doing exactly what they (falsely) accuse the right of doing. There is no credibility to this story, no contemporaneous accounts, and the so-called "victim" appears to be doing it for personal publicity and/or trying to harm Cain's reputation.
That's a far, far cry from the credible and far better documented charges by Paula Jones and Juanita Brodderick.
I cannot say the same for Cain. I don't believe he's a conservative (look for starters at his 999 plan or is it now the 909 plan--it's a monstrosity)
In addition, Cain's not articulate or well-versed on history or the issues, nationally or globally.
What the heck has this guy to offer, in real terms, that would cause us all to lose our collective minds in defense of this man?
Herman Cain wanted to play in the big leagues. He knew this crap was out there. As such, he is no victim
He can't shut this down....then we should. This is sucking the oxygen out of the political climate---anyone know what happened in today's elections in Ohio or Virginia? Anyone care?
You’ve missed the point.
The press took Allen out, and we let them.
It doesn’t matter that the man here is Cain. What matters is the assault itself.
Cain will take himself out if somebody else finally gets their mind right about the issues.
Romney’s first official act on announcing, for example, should have been:
“Masscare was an abortion, and an experiment, and it failed, and as such I will guarantee no such thing happens to the country.”
That never happened, which is to say he’s not opposed to trying something like it again.
The person we are talking about is Cain, but it that’s not what matters. What matters is the press defining the field for us on crap just as thin as ‘macaca’.
