LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) The search for a man wanted in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a Corsicana postal worker in June has landed 29 alleged illegal workers in hot water this week with U.S. Border Patrol agents in Lake Charles, La.
The suspect being sought was 25-year-old Daniel Gonzalez Rodriguez. U.S. Postal inspectors say on June 22, 2008 Gonzalez Rodriguez ran a red light in Corsicana, hitting mail carrier Donnie Evetts truck and then fled the scene. Evett died, and Gonzalez Rodriguez has been on the run for the past six months.
Postal authorities offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of Gonzalez Rodriguez following the accident, distributing flyers throughout Navarro County in an effort to locate the man suspected of driving the truck that struck Evetts mail delivery van.
Federal agents had reason to believe he was working a construction job in Lake Charles, but when officials arrived at the scene, this story took a surprising twist.
The search for a Gonzalez Rodriguez brought state police to a Lake Charles construction site Wednesday. Sgt. Stephen Lafargue with Louisiana State Police Troop D says, We were contacted by the Texas Rangers in reference to a felony hit and run that had taken place where a U.S. Postal worker was killed and they thought that they had a suspect in this area that was working construction.
When state police began questioning the workers about the whereabouts of Gonzalez Rodriguez, authorities discovered that 29 of the men had no documentation.
The Border Patrol was called in, Lafargue said, they took the 29 in custody, they will be processed and then agents will go about identifying them through fingerprints or any type of identification.
Corsicana police confirm that none of the men in custody are in act Gonzalez Rodriguez. The alleged illegals were turned over to the custody at the U.S. Border Patrol office in Lake Charles.
Resthaven Administrator Sereitha McGee, where the construction work was taking place, says she had no idea that 29 alleged illegals were working on this construction site.
We dont actually do the hiring, says McGee, the contractor hires the sub-contractor. Even the contractor is a good company ... from what I was told by the state troopers is that theyre not really sure that theyre illegal, but they did take them down to have them all checked out.
Louisiana State Police will continue to work with the Texas Rangers and U.S. Border Patrol in this investigation.
As to Daniel Gonzalez Rodriguez, the SOB is still at large and every time I go in the Corsicana Post Office, I see the wanted poster for him and know if he is ever caught, I believe Obama will some how let him go!
This should be a real national holiday. Political correctness is often comical, but here it has deadly consequences.
...and save a pretzel for the gas jets!
Cheers!

What's up with that?
Somehow I missed this on the local news.
More American citizens have been killed by illeagls than the number of Americans killed in all the wars since WWll.
Add another one.The arrest of a suspect in the murder of a Frederick Burger King manager has ignited a debate in Frederick County about illegal immigration. The suspect arrested by police, 21-year-old Jose Reyes Mejia-Varela, is an illegal immigrant who had already been deported once before.
Federal criminal charges are pending against Mejia-Varela for illegally re-entering the country after having been deported as an aggravated felon, police say. He has also been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, first and second-degree assault and theft.
County Commissioner Blaine Young is proposing a package of rules to drive illegal immigrants out of Frederick County.
What happened was this hit kind of close to home. So we kind of fast-tracked some of those initiatives we want to look at, Young said.
He wants to strengthen an existing English-language ordinance, require businesses to use a government data base to verify employees status, prohibit the rental of homes and apartments to illegal immigrants and prohibit day-labor gathering sites.
We should not be offering assistance to people that aren’t here legally, Young said.
Some Frederick residents share Youngs sentiment, but others argue the rules go too far.
Bottom line, if you’re an illegal immigrant, you’re here illegally. You got to enforce the law, said John Hardin.
Theres absolutely a middle ground for finding a way to accept all who come to this country and adhere to our laws, counters Chris Garcia.
Young predicts the proposals will become law.
People have said Frederick is the ( ) unfriendliest county in the state of Maryland when it comes to illegal aliens. We wear that as a badge of honor, he said.
I want EVERY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO ISSUE A STATEMENT ON THE DEATHS OF THESE PEOPLE AND A MESSAGE TO THEIR FAMILIES AS TO WHAT THEY WILL DO TO STOP THIS INSANITY.
Thanks for posting this.
It is sad that most people do not know that more Americans have been killed at the hands of illegal alien criminals than at the hands of terrorists.
Illegal immigration and our own government’s ongoing, absolute refusal to enforce its own immigration laws is a much greater danger to our country and our people than terrorism is.
More than 50,000 Americans have been killed by illegal aliens since 9/11.'More' is right. Add to that 50,000 all the hispanic gang-bangers who were brought here by a parent when 'young' and have killed people - other gang-bangers or innocent folks - in drive-bys and who have never been caught.
In the tens years since 9-11 that number has to be in the thousands. Or tens of thousands. But we can't say anything about that as it's 'racist' because 'American' gang-bangers murder people too and we're singling out hispanics (what a crock of bs).
50,000+ Americans is a small price to pay for cheap e.coli covered strawberries and lettuce. /s
