The extreme the wealth disparity in the U.S. keeps on widening. We already know that people at the higher percentage levels are doing well, particularly at the highest, while the middle class is shrinking rapidly. Here, Michael Snyder presents some handy statistics on the growth at the lowest levels of poverty.

Extreme Poverty Is Now At Record Levels – 19 Statistics About The Poor That Will Absolutely Astound You

Courtesy of Michael Snyder of Economic Collapse

[Extreme Poverty Is Now At Record Levels - 20 Statistics About The Poor That Will Absolutely Astound You] According to the U.S. Census Bureau, a higher percentage of Americans is living in extreme poverty than they have ever measured before. In 2010, we were told that the economy was recovering, but the truth is that the number of the "very poor" soared to heights never seen previously.

Back in 1993 and back in 2009, the rate of extreme poverty was just over 6 percent, and that represented the worst numbers on record. But in 2010, the rate of extreme poverty hit a whopping 6.7 percent. That means that one out of every 15 Americans is now considered to be "very poor".

For many people, this is all very confusing because their guts are telling them that things are getting worse and yet the mainstream media keeps telling them that everything is just fine.

A couple weeks ago my cousin was posting on facebook her rant about not being able to afford medical care. The problem is that she was posting from some kind of gamer’s convention on the other side of the country.

She can’t afford medical care but can afford a flight across the country and a motel room so she can play dress up at nerdfest for a week.

My profession is in recruiting. I had a conversation with a young woman about an opening at our plant. Entry-level admin position paying $15/hr. Her response was that her food stamps would be lowered and her HUD rent would go up if she worked, so she turned down the job.

Government assistance programs don’t encourage people to leave the plantation - they actually pay them to stay on it!

And you and I pick up the tab.

Just exactly how they come up with these "statistics" should tell anybody that we have a govt. hell bent on destroying this country.

They need to have these bad numbers so they can say "See, see how bad it is, we need more money to fix these problems"

And as usual it makes everybody "feel" bad so they go along with it. Oh, well. We have the govt. we deserve.

What’s “very poor”? No iPad?
C’mon we’ve put everyone on the dole. There is no “extreme poverty” except perhaps in the most rural of rural areas.

We’re ADVERTISING for food stamps, WIC and free cell phones, FGS!

And I bet you the vast majority of the poor voted for King Obama, and they will again. Nothing will stop these so call poor from continuing their golden goose. This next election those King Obama bought might get him reelected. He has 12 more months to build his communists/freeloader empire.

In my school distict our teacher assistants (who all make $12,000 a year & the majority of them are single mothers of multiple children, many w/ different fathers) almost every day order out lunch & spend about $8.00. The teachers who make about 3 times what they make can’t afford to do that. So, the question remains, HOW do they afford this?????????? And have top of the line cellphones that do everything? I have a simple cell that makes calls & takes photos.

I am baffled, but even more than that I am disgusted.

Things are terrible. Don’t kid yourself. Anyone in a main street business in the real economy will tell you the truth.

We are on the brink of collapse.

Poverty has nothing to do with business aside from being firmly attached to its aching nipples.

Here’s a perfect example. Two weeks ago my baby brother started a 7 week training course to become a linesman. He said it is grueling and expensive after he paid for his books, shoes, equipment, & the motel where he stays Sunday- Thursday. He is serious about this. He has had several job setbacks & he wanted something he could do for the rest of his life. He is an extremely hard worker.

He said there are several young guys in his class who have their pants hanging past their boxers & have a whatever attitude. One day at lunch they were all talking & they were bragging that they had all their books, boots & equipment paid for & someone came & picked them up every morning & took them home in the evening. Needless to say my brother was completely disgusted.

I really need to change my name to, pretty much all the way conservative.

Little Known Facts:

When calculating income for federal income taxes and to determine if people are below the poverty threshold the government does not include welfare, food stamps, government paid medical and other freebies and handouts.

So many of those included in the data as below the poverty line actually have more disposable “income” than the government reports.

When calculating income for the purposes of making mortgage loans (many to people who did not have enough real income to qualify) the government requires lenders to include welfare payments as income.

The government stcks the deck both ways to further the Wefare State agenda.

You are delusional. There are millions of self employed people not counted in these numbers whoses businesses are near collapse. I have friends using saving to keep their businesses going. These were all middle class people a few years ago who face losing evertything soon.

You can snicker and laugh and downplay this all you like , but things are getting drastically worse very fast, despite the garbage rush windbag says daily.

Under Jenny Granholm, ALL college students in Michigan became eligible for food stamps. That includes rich trust fund kids and those with full scholarships that include food.

Fortunately we ended that a couple months ago and cut off food stamps for some 30,000 college students.

What are CCC workers? If it’s something I should know I will be mortified.

CCC = Civilian Conservation Corps

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men from relief families, ages 18–25.

A part of the New Deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it provided unskilled manual labor jobs related to the conservation and development of natural resources in rural lands owned by federal, state and local governments.

The CCC was designed to provide employment for young men in relief families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression while at the same time implementing a general natural resource conservation program in every state and territory.

Maximum enrollment at any one time was 300,000; in nine years 2.5 million young men participated. Reserve officers from the U.S. Army were in charge of the camps, but there was no military training or uniforms.

I can remember eating some mighty tough venison because that is what was left.

I asked a guy from Kentucky what he remembered most about the '29 Depression. He said that was when they had a big pot of squirrel stew that had to last all week. After each meal, mom would add water to bring the level back up. He said that by the following Friday, that squirrel stew was pretty damn thin.
