In a world of stump speeches, Anita Perry, 59, is becoming known on the trail, good or bad, for her candor. For a woman who said in 2005 she didn't expect her husband to become governor - or agricultural commissioner for that matter - Anita Perry has grown comfortable in the political spotlight, making campaign stops for her husband and headlines of her own.

On Friday, while the governor campaigned in Iowa, Anita Perry scheduled a full day of events in New Hampshire

As her husband became the longest-serving governor in Texas history, Anita Perry advocated for health care issues in the state, raised money for victims of sexual assault and encouraged young people to go into nursing.
On the campaign trail, she has made several stops at hospitals, health care facilities and nursing schools, often without her husband beside her. While not all of the presidential candidates' wives hold their own campaign events, Anita Perry said it's natural for her to take the stage alone.

While she walked around the Veterans Home's dining area, leaning over tables and thanking veterans for their service, one man stood up to greet her.
"My mother would roll over in her grave if I didn't stand up for you," he said.
"Oh bless your heart. Thank you," she replied, patting his arm.
They chatted for a moment. Then, as the man went to sit down, the former nurse held his chair and guided him slowly into his seat.

(Just *Kidding* folks, enjoy your thread.)
Cheers!
Very nice. She’s really a good person and it shows on her face.
Speaking of wives, I just found out Gloria Cain is a registered Democrat.

I grew up 14 miles from the Perrys and 10 miles from the Thigpens (Anita’s parents) here in Haskell County.
Anita nursed my grandfather before he died. She is very respected by all my family for his treatment.
When the idiots at the Austin-American Statesman wrote the “hit piece” about Anita, it infuriated my father. Had the author been in Haskell County an 86 year old farmer (& WWII vet) would have kicked his ass.
Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for posting this, beautiful pictures and she seems like a very nice lady.
I loved the picture of Anita with the physical therapy dog at the veteran’s hospital! That’s just precious.

It is really nice to hear real life stories about Rick and Anita Perry. Both seem to be such real and genuine people in real life. It is a refreshing change and one our country needs for a change.
PS, and I could almost imagine your 86 year old grandpa raising some serious cane when anyone would have trashed this woman he personally knew as kind and helpful!
Thanks for sharing!
It would have been no idle threat. I have seen him mad few times in my life. You don’t want to go there.
He is 86 and had quadruple bypass surgery less than a year ago, but that would not have made any difference. And from what I saw of the reporter for the Statesman, He would have easily kicked his butt.
I love working with therapy dogs. They’re now using them to work with some of our vets who have come home from Iraq and Afghanestan with PTSD and the dogs are working miracles with them. They used to give them massive doses of drugs and send them home and forget them, now they are finding these guys can come out of it whole and healthy.
She says “bless your heart” to a vet? She insults vets? I’ve been told to bless my heart for two months now and have been assured it ain’t a compliment. LOL!
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

If said with a sincere tone of voice, it’s a compliment. If said with a sarcastic tone of voice, then it’s a put down. :-)
She would be a much improved First Lady of over our current Chewbacca.
