Cain accuser attorney: Client sees 'no value' in revisiting issue

CNN) - Joel Bennett, the attorney for one the women who has accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment, said Friday that his client "made a complaint in good faith about a series of inappropriate behaviors and unwanted advances" from the GOP presidential candidate.

Bennett said his client sees "no value" in revisiting the issue now, but "stands by the complaint that she made."

Bennett said his client would disagree with Cain's characterization of the alleged harassment incidents.

He confirmed that the alleged harassment occurred in 1999 over a period of "at least a month or two." There was "more than one incident," he said.

What is it that they say about announcements like this being late Friday afternoon. Something about the whole weekend to let it settle in. An anonymous person decides not to talk.

So, in your opinion, would he support Romney were he not running himself?

He supported Romney in ‘08....

I think if he had to choose someone- it might be Newt...they are friends.....but that is just my opinion, we never really discussed Newt...

Newt is surprisingly charasmatic in person...I don’t trust the guy, but he is a likable guy in person...very attentive and friendly. He actually looks you in the eye when you talk to him, without that distracted glaze that tells you that he is really thinking about something else...he comes off as someone actually interested in what you are saying...even if you are trying to tell him what he should be doing!! LOL!!!

;-)

No one should be able to accuse anyone else of anything while hiding behind a lawyer.

Yet he didn’t open this can of worms; she and her attorney did. If anyone is in violation of the confidentiality clause, they are, not Herman Cain. All he’s done is respond to very minimal, very vague, allegations. So are you now trying to get more life out of this? Are you trying to pile on when the alleged accuser is shutting up? Are you? Are you that small?

First of all, she and her attorney did not open this can of worms, POLITICO did. You can read this how you want, I saw it differently. But bottom line for me is that Cain has changed his story every day since Sunday.

We may not ever know what really happened with Cain while he was at the NRA, in fact, unless Cain comes out and says he did everything he was accused of we will never know the truth because it will always be "he said-she said" so it's really a moot point.

But here is what we do know. We do know that he said  that there was no truth to "any sexual harassment complaints" filed against him Sunday night and Monday and that it is "all just a political smear", but then we found out that there were in fact sexual harassment claims filed against him.

Then he said that "yes there were claims against filed but they were proven to be without merit and that they were settled amicably among the parties years ago without financial settlements". But then we found out that wasn't true that there were at least two settlements paid, one for $30K and one for $45K.

Then he tells us there is a report coming out in Forbes Magazine that will "vindicate" him, but that wasn't true either, the report in Forbes Magazine was just him claiming Perry did this to him.

Then, Block comes on Fox News yesterday and says they "were wrong for blaming Perry and they would just like to move on". Then Cain shows up on Hannity's show blaming Perry again just a couple of hours later.

The man has shown himself to be either a liar or incapable of handling a crisis over an almost trivial matter but he wants me to to vote for him to be the most powerful man on Earth.

We were right when we all looked at Clinton and said, "this speaks to his character more than anything." The Left told us, "it was just sex and it has no relevance on how he will govern" and we tried to tell them that it's not about the sex it is about the cover up, the lying and the incompetence. We were right! Clinton used the Presidency to line his pockets and sold off our secrets and technology to China for campaign contributions and then capped off his legacy by costing the lives of almost 3,000 people on 9/11 and we all swore "Never Again, We Will Never Forget!" and here we are again.

I don't care if he harassed the woman or not, I knew the moment the story broke we will never know, only Cain and the woman do. What he has proven to me is that he is not deserving of my vote.

He isn't worth the risk.

Get a life. This is over. And so is your dumb, marble-headed pick of a candidate. I think your FReeper name is quite apt. It defines you both. Goodbye.

Yes, I knew he supported Romney in ‘08 but pickin’s were really slim back then. I can’t stand Romney and wish that Cain saw him for the flip-flopper he certainly appears to be.

Thanks.

translation, it was a weak case and any discussion now could open the case up to bad faith.

Wasn’t there some TV show that had a similar plot where a woman made a harassment claim and the opposing company settled in order to avoid scandal. The woman’s attorny finds out in the end she lied about the whole situation.

This real life attorney would be in serious trouble with such a false claim.

I missed have missed something. Where is it written that SHE brought it up?

Was it not the accuser that first said something about the issue? Where did it originate then?

Nevermind. I think I found the answer ... looks like Politico is behind this.

Don’t you just love modern politics? It’s not what a candidate can do for the country, it’s how much dirt they can dig up on the opponent.

Who knows, but if there is something there, you can bet the liberals will buy her out in a heartbeat if/when the time comes that they need it.

You may well be right, but I'm starting to learn that we cannot live our lives worried about what the liberals may do in the future. This could all blow over now and come up again during the general election (in fact, I'm sure it will), but, dammit, at this point, knowing what I know, I'll stick with Herm.

We can deal with the future in the future.

Ain’t that the truth. Cain is into the big leagues with a minor league attitude. He needs new lead staff, better advisers, and learn to stay on message. When in doubt, shut up.

Now?

Retreat, regroup, rearm, and try again next year?

I guess you are right. In this case, it is up to Herm to ask himself, what would happen if it does come out, and it us up to him to finally decide. I assume he has told his "handler" and they are advising him.

That money was spent a long time ago. $35,000 is chicken feed.

The allegations, even if substantiated, obviously did not amount to much. Unsubstantiated, they are not worth anything.

If they were, the MSM would be falling over themselves to pay back her severance pay and be willing to add huge chunks of money on top.

Not only was the money spent long ago (I seriously doubt one of these gold-digger whores actually invested her loot) then she’s either out-of-pocket for recent attorney fees or (more likely) the lawyer is doing this pro bono for the publicity... which is just another kind of whore.

I think people are missing her message. What I heard is that she stands by her complaint, he lied about it and now she has permission to talk but she doesn’t want to. I suspect, judging by the way he has handled this so far, he will force her hand.

I deeply hope so. He can do it by suing Politico without directly attacking her. She would have to be called to testify.

Are you anonymously accusing anonymous freepers of anonymously attacking anonymous women without releasing any facts?

I am offended that you would accuse freepers of engaging in journalism.

Rad_J, you're my hero for the day. I'd offer to buy you a steak, but you might accuse me of sexual harassment.

Or, were I your employer, I might demand that you perform five specific sexual acts with my grandmother, three gay San Francisco councilmen, and a golden retriever or else lose your job and your unvested pension; however, there appear to be some freepers who don't think that raises any issues . . . because there's no such thing as sexual harassment.

“the gal must have wisened up a tad”

More likely, there is no “gal”. Just a few guys in a smoky back room conniving ways to bring down an opponent. I’m visualizing Carville, Emanuel, Rove, Krauthammer in a misbegotten alliance.
