Herman Cain Has a Powerful Enemy in Iowa[Hard-Core Evangelical Christian Host]

The harassment scandal highlights Cain's rift with Iowa's most dangerous conservative talker.

Herman Cain has messed with the wrong Iowan.

One strand of the multifaceted scandal unfolding around the Republican presidential candidate this week has been the charge that Cain treated female staffers of Des Moines-based radio host Steve Deace in a manner Deace found "awkward and inappropriate."

While Deace has refused to describe the interaction that prompted that characterization, he has also spent the week relentlessly pounding Cain on his nightly talk show -- and taking to task the conservatives who, at least at first, largely defended the former Godfather's Pizza CEO.

Deace says his major objections to Cain predated the scandal and are based on matters of substance. But there's no question that, for whatever reason, Cain has become the top target of Deace's fierce -- some would say demagogic -- ire.

And that could be a big problem for Cain. Because Deace isn't just any radio talker -- he can plausibly claim to be one of the most influential right-wing figures in the Hawkeye State. Four years ago, he played an instrumental role in Mitt Romney's loss, and Mike Huckabee's win, in the Iowa caucuses.

Now, Deace has his sights trained on Cain.

I know nothing about this guy is he really popular there?

No.

Most of his popularity is in his head, as is his ego and sense of self importance.

That is my personal opinion. He could certainly hit some good points, but I never cared for his delivery. I didn't know he was on the air anymore actually...

He was doing a POD CAST most recently.

I got the distinct impression this guy is deteriorating ~ but from what problem I don't know. Could be bile and hate have him all balled up.

This guy never lived in the deep soth. Darling is a common expression. My Preacher’s wife uses that as term of respect, although it can be a term of disrespect depending on the inflection of the voice.

I listened just short of 5 min. He and a woman were talking about inflections and how they can be misconstrued. I wonder if he ever gave thought of that when he made these absurd allegations?

Mr Deace.

The words,‘Darling, do you mind doctoring my tea for me?’

cannot be construed as offensive by any reasonable fair minded individual.

Now the words, ‘Mr Deace, why don’t you kiss my Conservative American ass’, THESE are words you can say you find offensive.

Statement on Politico Story

02 November 2011
18:30 GMT

“No one affiliated with our radio program has anything else to say about Herman Cain’s awkward and inappropriate comments made to our staff referenced in a recent Politico story beyond what we have already said. Sadly, those comments are no more inappropriate and awkward than Mr. Cain’s multiple positions on the sanctity of human life, his support of the TARP, his not knowing China already has nuclear weapons, and his refusal to defend marriage. The fact that someone so uninformed and morally inconsistent has made it this far in a crucial Republican presidential primary, only to finally be vetted by his personal life, is an example of why so many Americans have lost faith in the system. Instead of debating issues we debate cults of personality. This sort of personality-driven politics helped Obama get elected four years ago, and look how well that turned out.”
Steve Deace

Only if he can hurt a conservative candidate. Exactly the same playbook that was used to attack Sarah Palin.

"He's not stupid, he's a scumbag. He's trying to make a name for himself off Cain's problem."

Pretty close to Mark Levin'ws take on this guy last night on his radio show.

Deace and Cain both profess to be Christians. The Bible shows how such situations should be handled, and Deace isn’t handling it in a Christian way. For crying out loud, even if they weren’t Christians, a real man would deal with another man personally and privately if a female associate was offended. Man up (in the do the right thing sense), Deacebag.

Sarah Palin said it, this is going to be an interesting election.

He is more than likely a Perrywinkle, we’ve seen this behavior on these boards more often than we would like.

It was early in the morning, he was in a strange studio, he didn’t know the people there and most likely not their names. So asked the first female to fix his tea. Maybe a better question is why one of Deace’s staffers - he always refers to them as “my staffers” - hadn’t already offered him some tea fixed to his liking? Maybe a little racism going on in Steve-O’s office?

He looks like that goof-ball stalker that moved next door to the Palins in Alaska in order to “monitor” their every move.
