It is time for Lisa P. Jackson to resign. Last Friday at Howard University, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) railed against the coal industry, saying, In [the coal industrys] entire history - 50, 60, 70 years or even 30 - they never found the time or the reason to clean up their act. Theyre literally on life support. And the people keeping them on life support are all of us.
This is patently false, of course, as emissions from U.S. coal-fired power plants are quite heavily regulated. Those emissions controls are the reason U.S. air is clean and safe and why, say, the air in regulation-free China is not.
As West Virginias Republican Rep. David B. McKinley pointed out, to the extent that the coal industry is on life support, it is Ms. Jacksons EPA and the rest of the Obama administration that has put it there with a slew of proposed and finalized anti-coal regulations.
A week before, Ms. Jackson appeared on Real Time With Bill Maher, where she said, Were actually at the point in many areas of this country where, on a hot summer day, the best advice we can give you is dont go outside. Dont breathe the air, it might kill you.
But there is no scientific or medical evidence to support this statement - not now or even when the EPA was organized and the Clean Air Act was amended to its current form in 1970.
Akin to shouting Fire! in a crowded theater, her inflammatory rhetoric actually serves to undermine all the efforts put forth and money spent by government and industry to clean the air the past 40 years.
In an Oct. 21 Los Angeles Times op-ed, Ms. Jackson essentially accused congressional Republicans of attempting to kill Americans.

PING!
Kinda off-topic ping to Global Warming list.
Jackson - another affirmative action moron.
Tyranny and bull$hit?
Watermelon indoctrination camp?
I would support complete abolition of the EPA.
Congressional Democrats like Jackson are attempting to scare Americans to death in order to get their way..
The EPA is just one more step from becoming a Gestapo. People like Jackson are trying to get that to come to past..

She is trying to move us closer to the 14th century Bananna Republic that she espouses.
Ignoring the fact that coal provides the primary power source for electrical generators in the United States is blatent and willfull ignorance. 60% of all electrical power in the U.S. is coal fired .
There hasn’t been a nuclear power plant built in the last 25 - 30 years thanks to regulatory protocal .
While points to asthma and directly relates it to pollutant emissions (as do the cost benefit analyses to support their rules), she conviently does not note that pollutant emissions have been decreasing in the US for some time.
Carbon monoxide emissions are 30% of what they were in 1990, NOx emissions are 45% of what they were in 1970 - with the vast majority of that occurring since 2000, PM10 emissions at 16% of 1970 levels, PM2.5 down 39% since 1990, and SO2 down 75% since 1970. These are striaght from EPA's National Emission Inventory Trends data published on their website.
Yet asthma is up in this timeframe even though emissions have been decreasing. And life is horrible according to EPA.
What a crock.
Stupid beyotch, I bet you can also feel the global warming when you fly in a plane like Debbie Stabmenow (D-Mich/insanity). I lived through the summers in the '70s in LA. The air now is 100 times cleaner than it was then. My dad worked across the freeway from a good sized range of hills and didn't even know they were there till the odd clear day. They were like 5 miles away.
