“A serious injury, and they let the driver go? That part of the story doesnt sound credible.”
Nothing these nut jobs say is credible.

If you say so. It appears to me this is not a nation and there are neither laws nor men.
To: mamelukesabre
It is wildly distorted now. I must stand with my convictions. Break the law and bad things happen.

They wanted “change and hope”,this is what you get from Obama.

7:45 p.m. Injury accident on Broadway at 11th Street
A man and a woman were hit at 11th Street and Broadway by a silver Mercedes, after a male driver ran
a red light, said Joe Jackson, 37, of Oakland, who witnessed the incident.
The driver was irritated by protesters walking in front of him.
Onlookers said the driver deliberately ran over the pair, accelerating after a man hit on the hood of the car.
The windshield was splattered with what appeared to be a milkshake.
After the car stopped at the other end of the intersection , , ,
“Get into a car and drive . . . to the other side”
Into the nite
Into the light!!!”

...murder, or standing in a street?
If someone is standing in the street blocking your progress, and a mob begins to pound on your car in a threatening manner while your car identifies you as their enemy, what would you do?

That is the same thought that crossed my mind as well... the fact that the police let him drive away when someone was taken away in an ambulance leads me to believe the police might have felt they were in danger as well (and not a flight risk... political connection?).
Another thing to consider is with thousands of protesters and an escalating incident (blocking traffic, perception of the ‘rich’ guy in the mercedes as the enemy, pounding on hood, yelling at occupants), why have we not seen cell-phone video yet? I find the whole narrative very suspect. So, he ran over one, and injured another when he backed up? sounds like the car was completely engulfed in a hostile crowd maybe???

Gretchen Bailey, a kindergarten teacher at Global Family School in Oakland for 15 years, said she took the day off without pay to protest both local budget cuts and the national goals of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
I think we need new tax laws, she said. We all need to share more of the burden.
Oakland Unified spends nearly $11k per student... the top performing district in the state (Los Altos Elementary) spends $1500 less per student and is a basic aid district (minimal funding from state), whereas Oakland Unified gets significant state revenue along with substantially higher federal grant revenue. So, basically, the wealthy are paying not only for their own kids' education, but also for the education of the poor (and at a 16% premium to boot). But this is simply not enough... they need to pay more. So, when she says "we all need to share more of the burden," is she referring to the poor paying more in taxes to support education, or the wealthy taking on the burden of parenting the poor as well? The real problem here is the fact that the school at which this teacher is employed counts fewer than 20 students that are not classified as 'English learners' among the roughly 220 students... poor. don't speak the language. parents never graduated high school... if in fact both parents are in the home. No amount of money will lead to the outcomes she desires.

I can’t believe no one’s asked the only really important question here. What flavor was the milkshake?

seems to me people here are forgetting that running over a pedestrian is actually against the law.True, that.
So is blocking the road.
Not saying two wrongs make a right, but at some point the Laws of Motion come into play (just Newtonian Physics).
