Winter Storm Alfred delivered an early blast of heavy, wet snow on Saturday that knocked out power to more than a half million homes.
Gov. Dannel Malloy declared a state of emergency and said power could take days to be restored in some parts of the state. He also said that one person was killed in a storm-related crash in Colchester and a Connecticut State Police Trooper was injured in a different crash.
"We would like people to stay off the roads as much as possible," said Malloy.
Connecticut State Police said motorists traveling on Connecticut's roads need to be careful of the heavy, wet snow. State police said the storm could present the danger of bringing down tree limbs, which still have fall foliage.
State police said people should monitor road conditions and if travel is necessary, avoid driving in deteriorating conditions.
Winter Storm Alfred has now cause more outages than Hurricane Gloria in the 1980s.
why cuz a freaking snowflake fell? What’s he gonna do when a noreaster comes, declare martial law?
These people need to get used to power outages. Their boy Barry has promised to make them “the norm” by closing down all of the power generating plants or driving the plant owners into bankruptcy. Get used to it.
About 7-12” of heavy, wet snow has fallen while the trees still have leaves. This has knocked out the power in most places.
They probably haven’t received their orders of salt for the roads yet, either. They usually take delivery mid-November.
I just got a call from my sister, power is out across the state, power lines down worse thaan the hurricane and trees falling in my Mom’s yard, even Fir trees
lots of wet snow, previous rain, branches coming down from our yard to the street, BIG branches
55 MPH winds expected tomnight, so, lots of branches in the morning
CT has lots of pole power lines and lots of trees. When the hurricane hit last summer same thing happened up there.
Danger Will Robinson! Global Warming Alert!
Now Obama will be able to blame the bad economy on a snow storm.
Might you be Referring to “Diaper Needs Awareness Day” he declared on Thursday? :)
The cl&p map is mostly black in the northern part of ct. A quick Google search should bring it up. I can’t provide the link now as I have no net connection and am posting from my iPhone.
Winter storm Alfred?
I guess old Mallethead Malloy’s next move will be to ask his buddy 0bamama for more taxpayer dollars to “recover” from this piss-ant snowstorm.
yeah, so I’ve been informed. Had no idea. Sounds like classic global warming.
Yeah, what he said. Since when do we name winter storms?
Probably when the started talking about “straight line winds” on the weather reports. Anything to add drama..
Glad you made it to your motel! All local events here have been cancelled. The only thing I have heard on our road tonight is a snowmobile. When I lived upstate NY we had a few inches around now but I’ve never seen this in Lancaster County before. We usually get our first accumulation - an inch or two - by mid December.
Fear not. Ignorance is curable.
