Malloy declares state of emergency
WFSB ^

Posted on 10/29/2011 6:11:10 PM PDT by matt04

Winter Storm Alfred delivered an early blast of heavy, wet snow on Saturday that knocked out power to more than a half million homes.

Gov. Dannel Malloy declared a state of emergency and said power could take days to be restored in some parts of the state. He also said that one person was killed in a storm-related crash in Colchester and a Connecticut State Police Trooper was injured in a different crash.

"We would like people to stay off the roads as much as possible," said Malloy.

Connecticut State Police said motorists traveling on Connecticut's roads need to be careful of the heavy, wet snow. State police said the storm could present the danger of bringing down tree limbs, which still have fall foliage.

State police said people should monitor road conditions and if travel is necessary, avoid driving in deteriorating conditions.

Winter Storm Alfred has now cause more outages than Hurricane Gloria in the 1980s.

These people need to get used to power outages. Their boy Barry has promised to make them “the norm” by closing down all of the power generating plants or driving the plant owners into bankruptcy. Get used to it.

About 7-12” of heavy, wet snow has fallen while the trees still have leaves. This has knocked out the power in most places.

They probably haven’t received their orders of salt for the roads yet, either. They usually take delivery mid-November.

CT uses mostly sand, not salt. That's why the older cars here in the midwest where they use lotsa salt are so much rustier and the roads have more potholes.

CT has lots of pole power lines and lots of trees. When the hurricane hit last summer same thing happened up there.

Danger Will Robinson! Global Warming Alert!
Now Obama will be able to blame the bad economy on a snow storm.

The cl&p map is mostly black in the northern part of ct. A quick Google search should bring it up. I can’t provide the link now as I have no net connection and am posting from my iPhone.

I guess old Mallethead Malloy’s next move will be to ask his buddy 0bamama for more taxpayer dollars to “recover” from this piss-ant snowstorm.

It was a bad one. Just got into my hotel. Drove 6 hours in that mess. It was a very heavy snow that began early this morning. A very large area was hit. The leaves were still on many of the trees. Many branches began to break after about 3 inches of wet snow accumulation. This was a nor'easter. Most of the driving was also in white out conditions.

Sounds like classic global warming.

If it gets any warmer we are all going to freeze to death. What I haven't heard was the crop damage. Saw a lot of feed corn still in the fields. I don't know how they are going to harvest it now.

Just two days ago this was suppose to be a peaceful (scenic) mountain drive from visiting my Daughter at State College. Ugly.

Glad you made it to your motel! All local events here have been cancelled. The only thing I have heard on our road tonight is a snowmobile. When I lived upstate NY we had a few inches around now but I’ve never seen this in Lancaster County before. We usually get our first accumulation - an inch or two - by mid December.
