Sacramento is Government Central, a land of overly pensioned bureaucrats and restaurant discounts for state workers. But way up in the North State, one finds a small but hard-edged rural populace that views state and federal officials as the main obstacles to their quality of life.
These rural folks, living in the shadow of the majestic Mount Shasta, believe that they are being driven away so that their communities can essentially go back to the wild, to conform to a modern environmentalist ethos that puts wildlands above humanity.
As the locals told it during the Defend Rural America conference Oct. 22 at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds, environmental officials are treading on their liberties, traipsing unannounced on their properties, confronting ranchers with guns drawn to enforce arcane regulatory rules and destroying their livelihoods in the process.
The evening's main event: a panel featuring eight county sheriffs (seven from California, one from Oregon) who billed themselves as "Constitution sheriffs."
They vowed to stand up for the residents of their communities against what they say is an unconstitutional onslaught from regulators in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. In particular, they took issue with the federal government's misnamed Travel Management Plan, which actually is designed to shut down public travel in the forests.

The idea of a rural rebellion or any kind of rebellion in California sounds great. The fact of the matter is that San Francisco and Hollywood liberals working with the Taker class will continue to crush liberty for everyone else in the Peoples Republic of California.

This is going on all over California. There was a very long, detailed article posted here a while ago about very similar issues out in the desert area. Poor people being told their little homes aren’t “up to code”, folks with some eccentric landscaping concepts being harassed. And these are people who have moved far away from everyone else, but still the libs seek them out to bust their chops.
My rural Colorado county is surrounded by national forest. We folks here live cheek to jowl next to federal property. But a Sagebrush Rebellion is always a good thing. Distant bureaucrats know next to nothing about local conditions and needs.
As for medical marijuana in CA, its legal regardless of what the DEA thinks. Persecuting sick people isn’t the same league as going after major drug cartel criminals. The DEA needs to get its priorities in order.
There's really no hope for us trapped behind the lines here anyway, but at least we'd be free from the cash-hungry oppression asylum of Sacramento. ;-)
We have sheriff Mack speaking to us yesterday and today. He has written a book on constitutional sheriffs based on the Supreme Court decision in the case that he was involved with. He won, with NRA help, and the Supreme Court ruled that if State governments, local governments or sheriffs do not take federal money, there is little the federal government can do to them.
Worth reading for those who think everyone in California is a militant SEIU member, flaky liberal or welfare queen.
I like the idea of splitting up California as well. However, any region which includes San Francisco or Los Angeles will be destroyed forever by the liberals and the Taker class. Even Orange County, where I live, can not be relied upon because so many of our young people have been completely brainwashed by their professors. Within the next ten years Orange County will go democRAT.

I’m a rural Michigander, I know what it feels like to be a Californian. Fortunately we managed a hard right turn in our last election.
California wil get really interesting when the Welfare checks finally stop coming.
Does seem scandalous how those cities, sitting on the coast like zits on the skin, can dominate the whole of California. Might as well try to limit the damage. North, Middle, and South California could all become separate states, and South California would eventually give itself back to Mexico.
