I cut mine off for a total of nine months while on the ship. I was T.A.D. in Fire Department twice {volunteered for it} while in the yards. I liked the job and I didn't mind. Afterward I went back to A-division and grew it back. Since 1980 my beard has been off my face maybe a total of a year because I had joined the National Guards for a year hitch. My wife has not seen me without my beard. There are rumored pictures though LOL
I can also remember when if Adam and Steve were caught in the rack they were off the ship in an hour {The Old Man had that authority} or in the brig in protective custody till they could be flown off.
I heard the same rumor about our 02N2 plant. LOL Given the guy said to be involved I wouldn’t doubt it.
Yes, back then, it was just men raping men.
Our Creator made man and woman with distinct but very different mental & physical traits both of which are for our survival. I've seen very few women who could throw a 200 pound man across their shoulders and carry him from danger much less three-five decks straight up a ladder.
The training and duty of the military is too defend and if needed too kill too defend self and nation or offend an enemy in war.
If having too kill an enemy woman in combat tears at the mind of many men who have had to do just that how much mental issues to immediately deal with would a woman's death inflicted by the enemy of someone you fight beside cause? A friend of mine doing ops in Central America had to take out a woman fighter. It took him years to deal with it but it saved his unit he had no choise.
Better still more too the point having watched the Forestall training film a half dozen times it was a horror to watch men dieing. It was the real thing actual flight deck footage. The U.S. Navy has been lucky. The next such fire may be with women on deck. Will the Navy use that as a training film as well? We usually put the heavier guys on hose teams for a good reason.
Before DADT rack rump rangers when caught were removed from ship immediately. This was so the crew didn't do them grave serious harm. There was no quicker way besides death to be released from the Navy.
My last cruise to Subic Bay was in 1965 and I can tell you there probably wouldn't have been a trial if a man raped a man. He might have gotten a swimming lesson though.
There were Benny Boys in Olongopo at least that was the story, I never saw one to my knowledge. Jitney rides were 10 centavos San Magoo was 25. Marcos kept a lid on most things.
I flew back out of Clark Field in 65 and shortly there after the government demanded we leave. Strangely shortly thereafter a volcano destroyed Clark I think.
I did not see it referenced, but I assume he was dismissed from the service too.
I did basic at 17 .... would you REALLY expect my mind to be totally concentrating on soldiering and not staring at a fine lookin' lady ... ?
He lost his job and pension + over 3 yrs. “in the brig” which at least sounds ominous. The two incidents were within 2 days of each other while in port and involved “hand/s and mouth” and his being “drunk in front of the crew”. In one, he pushed the female against a wall and forced his hand up her skirt. In both he apparently forced unwanted kisses. Bad, but imo not as horrifying as his pleading guilty to rape and sexual assault led me to believe. The 10 yr. sentence with 3 in jail seems fair imo.
The old UCMJ Article 120 used to specify sexual intercourse for rape. Apparently the article was rewritten in 2007 and has a much broader definition now and includes crimes like indecent assault, lewd conduct, etc. I didn’t realize that until I just looked it up. It sounds like he pleaded guilty to violation of Article 120 if your facts are correct, not specifically rape. Like you say, it’s still pretty bad.
