He lost his job and pension + over 3 yrs. “in the brig” which at least sounds ominous. The two incidents were within 2 days of each other while in port and involved “hand/s and mouth” and his being “drunk in front of the crew”. In one, he pushed the female against a wall and forced his hand up her skirt. In both he apparently forced unwanted kisses. Bad, but imo not as horrifying as his pleading guilty to rape and sexual assault led me to believe. The 10 yr. sentence with 3 in jail seems fair imo.
The old UCMJ Article 120 used to specify sexual intercourse for rape. Apparently the article was rewritten in 2007 and has a much broader definition now and includes crimes like indecent assault, lewd conduct, etc. I didn’t realize that until I just looked it up. It sounds like he pleaded guilty to violation of Article 120 if your facts are correct, not specifically rape. Like you say, it’s still pretty bad.
