ATF gunwalker update: Eric Holder to testify on Fast and Furious
CBS News ^ | Oct. 28, 2011 | Sharyl Attkisson

CBS News has learned Attorney General Eric Holder has agreed to appear before the House Judiciary Committee regarding "Fast and Furious." The hearing will take place Dec. 8th.

Judiciary Committee member and head of the House Oversight Committee Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) had requested that Holder appear, in part to dig deeper into when-he-knew-what about ATF's so-called "gunwalking" operation Fast and Furious.

In May, Holder testified that he only first heard about Fast and Furious a few weeks before. However, as CBS News reported, documents and memos indicate he had been sent multiple briefings mentioning Fast and Furious in 2010.

Holder later explained in a letter to Congress that he didn't read those memos, and that in any event, nobody at the Justice Department who knew of Fast and Furious was aware of the specific "gunwalking" tactics used.

Also today, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) requested a public hearing with the former Director of ATF: Kenneth Melson.

"A hearing with Mr. Melson would help the Committee and the American people better understand what mistakes were made in Operation Fast and Furious, how these tactics originated, who did and did not authorize them, and what steps are being taken to ensure that they are not used again," wrote Cummings in a letter today to Rep. Issa.

I strongly doubt that Holder's testimony will have the kind of impact his opponents would be hoping for.

He'll either take the 5th, say he didn't recall, or flat out lie under oath.

An oath to a liberal is meaningless.

Weeks ago it looked like he was trying to blame Bush I wonder if he has nerve enough to do this again. He will do this before he acts responsible and shows character.

before he acts responsible and shows character.

Now, that would be completely out of character, and merely an act.

Holder will “testify” that he is, in effect, incompetent in his job. He will say he doesn’t know anything, never did anything, and doesn’t care to know anything, about Fast and Furious.

At the very least, Holder should be fired. Not just asked to resign, but fired.

But he deserves to be prosecuted and to serve major time in prison.

For the record: Babeu Q & A on Fast and Furious

http://azstarnet.com/news/blogs/senor-reporter/for-the-record-babeu-q-a-on-fast-and-furious/article_b9efedd0-01bd-11e1-b88c-001cc4c002e0.html

Q: When you says that those officials who carried out Fast & Furious should be considered accomplices or accessories to murder, are you serious, or is that a rhetorical point, that they could be charged? If serious, who in the ATF/DOJ chain of command should be investigated as possible accomplices or accessories to murder and other crimes? The line agents? Their supervisors? The U.S. Attorney’s Office or Justice Department officials involved?

A: The American people deserve a thorough, impartial, and independent review of what happened here. Nothing short of that will ever be acceptable. The Justice Department has a serious conflict of interest in policing itself. So no more scapegoats—let’s find out just how this happened, exactly who is responsible, and hold them accountable.

This is why the Sheriffs of Arizona both Republicans and Democrats are demanding a Special Counsel to investigate Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for their roles in Operation Fast and Furious.

The Sheriffs are demanding the truth from U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and believe that those responsible should be held criminally accountable for allowing 2,000 guns including assault weapons and 50 caliber rifles to be purchased on U.S. Soil and then turned over to the drug cartels of Mexico. As a result of their reckless facilitation and distribution of these weapons, our deputies and American citizens may now face the barrel of a gun that was placed in the hands of criminals by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. Citizens of the United States and Mexico have already been murdered by cartel members who now posses these weapons. There is no doubt more bloodshed will occur on both sides of the border, since over 1,500 weapons still remain unaccounted for.

What will be the outcome if he does indeed take the 5th? Can Congress appoint a Congressional Special Prosecutor since Mr. “My People” Holder clearly cannot hire a non-biased investigator.

Has Agreed? Is he so lofty a member of the Politburo that he has that choice?

One thing I would like to see codified into law would be a rule that government officials have, as part of their job, a duty to truthfully answer questions from Congress related to that job. Government officials may ask Congress to withdraw questions which would incriminate them, and may plead the Fifth even if Congress does not withdraw such questions, but such a pleading must be interpreted as a resignation. Any government employee who wants to retain employment without having to answer any questions must be able to show either that the questions did not legitimately pertain to the person's job duties, or some specific rule exempted the person from answering.

WHAT is so important to this administration they felt they needed to continue this?

And this proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was NO ‘botched’ operation. Damn them!

I think it has been well established & confirmed that 0dumb0 & Holder wanted to create the illusion and web of lies that "illicite gun sales to Mexico" were occurring from gun dealers in the U.S. to Mexican drug cartels. That way 0dumb0 & Holder could use this as a bogus justification for more gun controls. Actually we are fortunate this blew up in their faces, and now the whole world knows that 0dumb0 & Holder are nothing more than cheap thugs & liars. If these two bastard commie pigs weren't in U.S. politics, I think they would be out heading up their own drug gangs.

by law the Sec of State’s office has to be given a heads up if unlicensed folks are going to be moving weapons.

The law is ITAR - International Traffic in Arms Regulations - and any export of arms must be licensed by the State Department. That Holder did not receive licenses means that his department is guilty of over 2,000 felony counts that we know of, each with a 5-year penalty and up to a $250,000 fine.

First Mr. Cummings, is we need to see who to fire first...Then we Indict, then we put those responsible in prison...

Case closed...

But, as usual, it will be handled as gently as it can be, and nothing will happen, that needs to happen...

So I hope hey treat him as a "hostile witness' and have ponted questions tha will squeeze the answers out of him. Wouldn't it be nice he becomes a whislebower? i wonder if since he got the "new" Black Panthers9 oops as Himmler Reid calls them "negroes") maybe they gave him a membership on he hate "whitey cracker ' club. I really abhor racism but have been in wo nasty debates, one in person at the OWS( in my city) when a person stated I was racist because I didn't like Obama's POLICIES nor the way he's runnnig America into the ground. Believe me it escalated and I was the "racist cracker....b-b-but I told them I'm a jew...oh my I wish I had my iPod on that spiel they flamed my way

As per above, I hope Holder gets slammed as bad as me because he'd crack under the pressure, hands down. Oh as per my "incident": there was not one single black person around; all the hate directed at me, some excepts:

" All Jooooo's should be thrown in the ovens.

Hitler didn't finish the job but we will, we will!

You are a xenophobic son of a Jew whore..."

Oh it got real bad. I left instead of escalating it but this is just part and partial of the, "hope and change hate speach liberals have THE RIGHT to say, whereas if I called them, inbred caucasion slighly pink skinned homosexual escapees from Sodomy Francisco, I'd have been filleted alive.
