NEW YORK — Psychopaths are known to be wily and manipulative, but even so, they unconsciously betray themselves, according to scientists who have looked for patterns in convicted murderers' speech as they described their crimes.
The researchers interviewed 52 convicted murderers, 14 of them ranked as psychopaths according to the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised, a 20-item assessment, and asked them to describe their crimes in detail. Using computer programs to analyze what the men said, the researchers found that those with psychopathic scores showed a lack of emotion, spoke in terms of cause-and-effect when describing their crimes, and focused their attention on basic needs, such as food, drink and money. While we all have conscious control over some words we use, particularly nouns and verbs, this is not the case for the majority of the words we use, including little, functional words like "to" and "the" or the tense we use for our verbs, according to Jeffrey Hancock, the lead researcher and an associate professor in communications at Cornell University, who discussed the work on Monday (Oct. 17) in Midtown Manhattan at Cornell's ILR Conference Center.

In sociopaths and Narcissists, their entire energies are devoted to propping up facades, donning masks, so as not to alienate people around them, to avoid being outcast/abandoned: their greatest fear.
Therefore, the ‘ums’ and ‘uhs’ give them time. TIME to search for what they believe might be proper to say in a given situation. Which they then “mirror”...or pretend to feel...
since in truth,
they have no EMPATHY, no core.

To a psychopath that's actually their money in your pocket and they think one of two things about that ~ (1) They want it back, or (2) Time for a payday.

If you are talking to someone and their manner and eyes keep making the hair on the back of your neck stand up, there is a good chance that they are a psycopath.

The number 1 trait of a psychopath is to see individuals, whether you know them or not, as either purely good or purely evil.

Ain’t they though? On the other hand that is a generality, I can name one right off the top of my head who doesn’t seem to fit that description, at least not the way I see him. Tall, scrawny and wormy looking with big ears and a goofy way about him would be my description.
Back in the late 70s, I was watching a tv interviewer covering the Chicago teacher's strike. He asked one woman picketer, what her job was at the school. Her answer, "I teaches English". I'm not making that up. I was astounded.
Great. Not only is he a narcissist, he’s a psychopath as well. I keep having to revise my description of him, I used to think he was just a racist jackass. Boy, did I shortchange him.
