The 1947 version is sadly not available for streaming but only for DVD by mail. There is a sicko 2010 film with the same title which can be streamed, but it is not the same story at all.
When my son graduated college, one of the professors was up giving a speech. He broke into an impromptu rant against the hubris of Bush and the Conservative Establishment. It was so disjointed that it was hard to follow, but he looked proud as all get out when done. To its credit, the class and the rest of the staff just stared in disbelief.
Later, I approached him and said I enjoyed his speech. he smiled until I said that he had displayed "hubris" in a way that his meaning could not be misunderstood - he had exhibited the hubris of not preparing his speech and doing the class body and guests the courtesy of a well-thought-out and coherent or meaningful talk to honor the occassion. His face turned red and his eyes got wild, but all he could do was sputter. Many nearby added to his discomfort by vocalizing similar sentiments.
Ah, but he THINKS he is “smooth-talking, slick, charming, eloquent.”

I believe that bill clinton is one of the most evil people on the planet, yet people seem to adore him. Never understood it. At the same time, I believe he is a genius and he uses his genius for evil without regard to the consequences and no matter who gets hurt The man has no compassion or conscience and neither do obama and hillary.

OTOH, Howie Carr, of Boston's WRKO, used to run occasionally a contest for fun: he'd run a soundbite, maybe 20 or 30 seconds, of Ted Kennedy, whom he nicknamed (among others) "The Wizard of Uhs" and the point was to call in and say how manys "uhs" you heard in the soundbite. The counts varied widely, but the number Howie heard was the right answer! Not really scientific, but amusing!

The author uses the term psychopaths, but describes sociopaths. I looked them up and turns out there are no differences. Seeing people in terms of sociopathy instead of terms of psychopathy makes identification much easier. Sociopaths have no empathy. They fake empathy when it suits them. They live to manipulate and even if you know what they are and what they’re doing they can make you feel buoyant after just a short conversation; if that is their goal.
The author’s premise that he can spot psychopaths (sociopaths) based on speech patterns is plane idiocy. He studied the patterns of men already in prison. Does he contend that he can spot somebody in the general populace based on their use of “I’s,” or “uhms” or “uhs.” He needs to read “The Sociopath Next Door” to learn that not every sociopath is evil; just that they’re there. They manipulate without regard to hurting feelings. Sociopaths constitute 10% of the population and as a population exhibit a bell curve for intelligence and evil. The author may be trying to develop a consulting practice to sell his magic spot-the-psychopath elixir to anybody foolish enough to buy it.
Sociopathy most likely developed as a survival trait. They were the ones who would charge and kill invading tribesmen. Non-sociopaths find it almost impossible to kill, even in self-defense.
As far as I'm concerned, if someone makes me uneasy, I'll try not to even get involved in a conversation with that person but to avoid him altogether. (Usually it's a him).
I'm a strong believer in gut instinct. I try not to ignore it. I also try to be observant and pay attention to what is going on around me.
There is a test that psychologists use. Supposedly only psychotics ever answer it correctly. They have given the test to a bunch of serial killers and they always get the right answer. A normal person would never guess that answer. So if you get this right please lose my phone number. LOL!!

Although I will say that your notes that only a psycho would answer it correctly gave me a huge hint as to the correct answer. Also, knowing that it was a question designed to flush out psychos gave me insight into the answer.

I know from experience that the psychopathic personality is the most evil, destructive force on earth. They are the examples of what happens when a human soul has no connection to G-d.
Their ability to manipulate is unbelievable and that’s always confused me. How can a creature without empathy figure out what another person needs or wants to hear so well?
In my experience, they can’t maintain the mask for more than three months. I’ve taught both of my children to stay on their guard for the first three months of a new relationship. Don’t make excuses for their new partner’s behavior during this time. Really *think*. When the mask slips, realize that this is not the abnormal behavior. The *good* stuff is the abnormal behavior. The bad behavior is the real person.

There’s another article on FR this morning about how the elites want to reduce the human population down to around 500 million. If you read the quotes, it sounds like a bunch of psychopaths scheming. No mercy. No compassion. Just a need for control.

A numbers years ago, I was reading some work on Rorschach's technique. I do not recall if it was Rorschach's theory or the next researches but 'they' stated that it is believed that very large portions of the population was/is suffering from thought disorders -are psychopaths, sociopaths.
The suggested plan was putting "Rorschach kiosks" in malls to identify these people for treatment. I do not recall if there was a link between cities and the percentage of the disorders or just to target high density.
Think about this objectively, taking it to the next level you could begin to understand why a portion of the population would do things (or demand that others do to them) things that are counter to their overall well being/happiness/freedom etc.

During the 1992 election, a psychologist that evaluated prisoners as to their mental state, told me it was his opinion that Bill Clinton was a sociopath and Hillary was a psychopath. Hillary flat out scared the crap out of this guy.
