Latino Rights Activists Seek to Sabotage GOP Primary
AM 740 KTRH ^ | 10/17/2011 | JOE GOMEZ

Posted on 10/26/2011 9:00:23 PM PDT by CharlesWayneCT

Because Governor Rick Perry has backed some especially harsh anti-illegal immigrant legislation (like a bill that would outlaw sanctuary cities) Latino rights activists want Hispanics to switch over to the republican party and vote Perry out of the G.O.P race for the presidential nomination during the upcoming primary season.

...

"I think to a lot of Democrats what Governor Perry represents is something that they detest"

And what candidate are the Latino Activists pushing to vote for in place of Rick Perry? "they ought to jump over and vote for Herman Cain in the Republican Party"

But, But, But, Rick Perry spoke at La Raza!! He's pro-illegal-alien!!! He's open borders!!! He's the darling of the Latino activists!!!

Well, apparently not. Although I doubt this will make any difference to those who keep spreading those stories.

Nope. I think Free Republic has been infiltrated by Obama agents. They are gleefully throwing around discontent.

Nope. For every action Perry has made but not followed through on regarding removal of illegals, there are three actions he has made to coddle them.

Some Texans, unfortunately for Whinestone cowboy Rick have been kept abreast of this stuff by their state legislators.

Open borders Perry is a fair charge. So is his skullduggery in the TTC fiasco.

If Perry wanted to build a credible case that he had reformed, he could have worked to secure the border between now and 2016 and run then. Many who adamantly oppose him suggested that over a year ago, including me.

People who don’t know anything about Perry and are afflicted with a particularly thoughtless kind of partisanship think Perry is “pro-illegal”. He isn’t, but his signing the tuition bill in 2001 allows others to smear him. Signing the bill was a mistake, but the Texas legislature would have overridden his veto very easily.

You don’t know much about Texas politics, do you? If you want villains on this and on the TSA bill you would have to know who Joe Straus and David Dewhurst are and what powers the TX Constitution of 1876 gives the Governor.

Perry is not at fault for either bill failing to pass.

It's not possible to really care about the Mexican people if one is pro-illegal immigration. If they stayed, they could have been a force for change for not only themselves but the poor Mexicans that have stayed home.

Besides, to be pro-illegal is to support a form of modern day slavery.

If Perry wanted to build a credible case that he had reformed, he could have worked to secure the border between now and 2016 and run then. Many who adamantly oppose him suggested that over a year ago, including me.

There was nothing to "reform" from, other than his state near-unanimously deciding to let immigrants attend college at in-state tuition levels, which he thinks was the right thing for Texas so he wouldn't "reform".

Why don't you name 3 actions he has taken to "coddle" illegals. Anybody can say a number. We know of the many things he has done to thwart illegals -- some Perry supporter regularly posts nearly a dozen links of concrete actions Perry did. We know he has spent millions securing the border, he has imprisoned illegals and tried to get the feds to deport them. He banned illegals from getting drivers licenses. He tried to get the legislature to shut down sanctuary cities.

What are the "actions" people complain about? 2000 immigrants a year getting to pay in-state tuition for college -- not all illegal, and all paying more than what it costs to educate them. Oh, and a picture of a Governor giving a speech to a hated group.

Perry is not "open borders" -- NumbersUSA rated Perry "good" on border security. So rather than it being a "fair charge", it is an entirely baseless charge. What has he done to "open" borders? His actions have secured the borders, but opponents say "he opposes building a fence over the entire border". Well, NOBODY supports building a fence for the entire border; at best they will fence the river border, without securing the gulf coast or the pacific coast.

But, you will say, "that would be stupid -- you don't NEED to fence the gulf coast". To which I respond, first, that it is much easier for an illegal to walk 100 yards along the beach at low tide around the edge of a fence, than to walk miles through the texas outback and over the Rio Grande. Second, saying "you don't need a fence on the gulf coast" is a tacit agreement that there are places a fence doesn't make sense -- strategic fencing!!! Perry promises to both secure the border using fencing AND boots AND electronic assets, but also to deal with the other big problem, that of legal immigrants coming through border checkpoints but overstaying their welcome.

So your call for him to reform is ludicrous, your assertion he is Open Borders is false, and your claim there are "three actions" coddling illegals for every action against them is absurd.

And I have no doubt people who oppose Rick Perry wanted him to wait until 2016. Because that would be stupid; in 2016 we'll be 4 years into a republican administration.

Rick Perry is NOT pro Illegal.

Did I mention Perry in my comment? Why did you feel it was necessary to reply to me that Rick Perry is NOT pro Illegal?

I never once thought of Perry when making my comment.

Because I believe that Perry understands that the problems we have with illegal immigration reside at the national levels of the US and Mexican governments

As the only white person and only American ever in the poor hills of Icacos, Mexico I witnessed a 70 year old man refuse to go with his two sons and I watched them leave and I saw the old man cry begging them not to go that "this is our home". But they left anyways. It's been 18 years since that day.

The Mexican government loves that we accept the unhappy ones. They are the would-be opponents of Mexico's status quo.

Sorry, I think I understand it more.
