Latino Rights Activists Seek to Sabotage GOP Primary
AM 740 KTRH ^ | 10/17/2011 | JOE GOMEZ

Posted on 10/26/2011 9:00:23 PM PDT by CharlesWayneCT

Because Governor Rick Perry has backed some especially harsh anti-illegal immigrant legislation (like a bill that would outlaw sanctuary cities) Latino rights activists want Hispanics to switch over to the republican party and vote Perry out of the G.O.P race for the presidential nomination during the upcoming primary season.

I would be very surprised if the pro-illegal liberal lobby really cares about a texas law that doesn’t offer them anything, that has only effected an average of 2000 kids a year, many of them legal, and many others only temporarily illegal, and who are working to fix their legal status, and are actually americanized and high-performing members of the community.

That’s not their profile. They speak for the high school dropouts who stand at the 7-11 and work day labor jobs. They don’t want immigrants to be successful college graduates, and neither do the businesses that are looking for cheap under-the-counter labor.

Those businesses want kids who can’t go to college, who get disallusioned with the system, stop renewing their papers, and fall into the underbelly of society, especially those who have been here long enough that they have no home, no way of going “back” to a place they never really have been and would never fit into, and therefore have no choice but to do the bidding.

College education improves the situation for both the children and the state — it’s why Texas decided to support this program.

The Texas program is not Obama’s dream act, which offers a path to citizenship for not only the kids, but their parents as well, and doesn’t require acheivement of any real kind. A lot of people who are upset at Perry know all about Obama’s Dream act, but assume the Texas law is identical, when it is quite different and has a different purpose and result. The conservative-hating media were more than happy to help confuse people on this subject.

I’d be happier if Cain had one the Senate seat and had some political expertise. Of course, I’d be happier if Perry hadn’t come across so bad in debates, or been so bad at explaining himself. I’m never happy when I can give a better defense of a candidate than they can.

At this point, if we could combine Perry’s record of acheivement and fundraising ability with Sarah Palin’s ability to communicate, we’d have an unstoppable candidate. Unfortunately, we don’t get to build our candidates.

I was watching Paul Ryan’s speech yesterday, and given where we are now, I really wish he was running (although since he said several nice things about Perry’s plan yesterday, I’m guessing he’ll get trashed as a RINO here pretty soon — it really is easier to tear people down than defend a candidate).

I’m almost sorry for that comment. People who know me (before the past 3 weeks) would know I defend candidates, I don’t generally attack them. I just got so tired of it the past few weeks that after Palin dropped out, I got lazy and started doing stuff like that comment.

It is so much easier than defending a candidate. On the other hand, during the month of Perry attacks, I was told repeatedly that the shot-gun soundbite attacks were GOOD for my candidate because it was “vetting”, it made people think, and my work to defend him was helpful.

So maybe I’m doing a public service. Although I enjoyed much more defending Cain against the silly “tax lien” story yesterday.

It’s very frustrating that one’s ability to govern isn’t the focus of who should be elected.

Then there’s this.

If your candidate has no experience for office, it is important to redefine experience as a negative. Hence, the "career politician" attack, the constant drumbeat of "professional politician" being a bad thing that would ruin our country.

None of these people would hire a person with no experience to fix their toilet, or re-wire their outlets, or build a deck. But they think the job of President is one where it would be fine to have a guy who has no training or experience that is relevant, who's biggest previous job was running a $40 million business with a few hundred employees, as an appointed CEO.

LOL. Perry can kowtow to the racists at ‘la raza’ all he wants, but they still won’t vote for him. Too funny. Opportunism apparently doesn’t always pay.

At this point in 2008, Giuliani was somewhere around 40%, and McCain was in single digits (and McCain had previously been near front-runner status).

Thanks for putting a smile on my face today. All the negativity can wear anyone down, a little perspective is a good thing.

Looking at the candidates I decided to support Perry awhile ago. IMO, we not only need to win this election but we need to elect someone who can actually get something done and get the right things done. Perry has a record that shows what he will support and how effective he will be in getting things done.

Cain seems to be the favorite right now, but a part of that is he has no record to look at. He is inexperienced as an executive in govt. Also, because he has no record he can say what he wants on any issue and we really have no way to know if he really believes it or has the capacity to get it done. I lost all interest in Cain when he refused to sign the Pro-Life pledge and when he was questioned on it came up with the silliest response I have ever seen. I have seen Cain make the same mistakes on just about everything he has been questioned on. He was clueless on the issue of "right of return". He has had about 3 different positions on abortion and his backtracking on that has been just as silly as his Pro-Life pledge backtracking. His 999 has become 909 and even 333. If he were to win the nomination just imagine the ads obama will run asking people what does he really stand for.

I think people will take the race more seriously the closer they get to actually voting. At that point I believe a solid conservative with experience and a record will be preferred to an entertaining goofball. Really, how do you take a guy seriously that wants to put an electrified fence in a river.

One would think that certain GOP figures would have learned by now that pandering to the militant Hispanic interests in this country gets you nowhere. But apparently some have been unable to learn from the pitfalls of others. And inability to learn from past mistakes is the hallmark of liberals, not conseratives.

Well, the current class of professional politicians HAS just about ruined this country, so your argument is not the best one going.

If you are not aware the Republican Party has a good number of Hispanic GOP leaders, politicians, and voters, then you need to get yourself more informed.

To be strong on immigration and border security is the right thing to do. Even most American Latino Republicans are for immigration enforcement. They want a safe and protected country to live in just as everyone else does.

The Republican Party does have Hispanic voters. Hispanics are traditionally very conservative on social issues in particular, and many DO vote Republican because of those social and family-oriented issues, and while we should honor our immigration policies, we should NOT be using the immigration issue as a means to spew words of hate and disgust for the very Latino voters we need to win the general election.

Be careful with your walk and talk, here and everywhere else, or we’ll see those Republican Latinos get fed up and leave our party completely, and that is not only wrong but not smart at all if you want to get a conservative voted into office.

Your comment about Perry is simply childish. As for the legislature, we have a problem. Nevertheless, Texas, for its problems, works a lot better than, say, Florida.

If you want villains on this and on the TSA bill you would have to know who Joe Straus and David Dewhurst are and what powers the TX Constitution of 1876 gives the Governor.

Fact is, Joe Straus, David Dewhurst nor the Texas Constitution called me heartless or implied I was guilty of racism based on someone's last name.

Are you trying to imply that la raza isn't a racist, anti-american organization? If so, you haven't done your homework. I don't see how pandering to a bunch of racists who long for an expansion of the criminal kleptocracy we see south of the Tx. border.

I have no problem with republicans of hispanic descent, but I don't see how that relates at all to the radical racists and mexican nationalists that Perry was pandering to.

There are some who have damaged our country, and others who haven’t. It is lazy to argue that since the country is in bad shape, and there are professional politicians, that being a professional politician is the problem.

Rick Perry is the experience executive who has been running the show in Texas. Texas has not been “ruined”, so arguing that we don’t need “his kind of experience” because “professional politicians cause the problem” is stupid.

As I said in a previous analogy — if you hire a professional plumber, and he’s an idiot, and he ruins your bathroom, you don’t say “Well, my bathroom was destroyed by professional plumbers, so I think I’ll hire a nice CPA to fix it”. No, you find a professional plumber with a record of success.

We are screwed because the democrats had been in congressional power for 4 years, and Obama has been running things for 3 years. It isn’t a “professional politician” problem, it’s WHICH professional we have — Obama is hardly an experienced executive, after all.

In some ways we are losing sight of the real problem. Talking about tax reform is fun, but the tax code isn’t what is destroying our country, it is the disastrous policies of the democrats and Obama. We need to reverse those policies, and that will get our economy moving again. Tax reform may make things “even better”, but we have had periods of solid growth and economic success under the current tax code, so blaming the tax code is like blaming a coach with a 20-year winning history for a losing season: getting a new coach might help, but likely there is a more proximate cause of the downfall that you should address first.

You just haven’t given Straus or Dewhurst a chance to do it ;-)

Dewhurst thinks he’s going to get the R nomination to replace KBH in the Senate. I think that the primary voters are going to remember what he did behind the scenes on the TSA and sanctuary cities bills.

Giving a speech at a meeting in your state isn’t “kowtow”ing. Our candidates are all showing up at left-wing news organization debates; they aren’t “kowtowing” to CNN, they are trying to get a message out to as many different people as possible.

I would be thrilled if Sarah Palin did a speech at the NAACP, or to La Raza, or at the annual DCC retreat — because her message would be one that they all need to hear, and that could sway some to mend their ways.

The bad part of polarization is the refusal to attempt to communicate to those we disagree with. Note that here at FR, when I disagree with people, I see an opportunity to persuade them to my position — I don’t run off and ignore them because they don’t agree with me.
