If your candidate has no experience for office, it is important to redefine experience as a negative. Hence, the "career politician" attack, the constant drumbeat of "professional politician" being a bad thing that would ruin our country.

Well, the current class of professional politicians HAS just about ruined this country, so your argument is not the best one going.

There are some who have damaged our country, and others who haven’t. It is lazy to argue that since the country is in bad shape, and there are professional politicians, that being a professional politician is the problem.

Rick Perry is the experience executive who has been running the show in Texas. Texas has not been “ruined”, so arguing that we don’t need “his kind of experience” because “professional politicians cause the problem” is stupid.

As I said in a previous analogy — if you hire a professional plumber, and he’s an idiot, and he ruins your bathroom, you don’t say “Well, my bathroom was destroyed by professional plumbers, so I think I’ll hire a nice CPA to fix it”. No, you find a professional plumber with a record of success.

We are screwed because the democrats had been in congressional power for 4 years, and Obama has been running things for 3 years. It isn’t a “professional politician” problem, it’s WHICH professional we have — Obama is hardly an experienced executive, after all.

In some ways we are losing sight of the real problem. Talking about tax reform is fun, but the tax code isn’t what is destroying our country, it is the disastrous policies of the democrats and Obama. We need to reverse those policies, and that will get our economy moving again. Tax reform may make things “even better”, but we have had periods of solid growth and economic success under the current tax code, so blaming the tax code is like blaming a coach with a 20-year winning history for a losing season: getting a new coach might help, but likely there is a more proximate cause of the downfall that you should address first.
