Perry calls on Romney to release tax returns

WASHINGTON – Rick Perry, after calling Mitt Romney a “fat cat,” today also called on the former Massachusetts governor to release his income tax returns, an indication that Perry will increasingly make an issue of Romney’s wealth in the Republican presidential primary.

The strong charges from Perry are striking coming from a candidate who himself two months ago accused President Obama of “trying to engage in class warfare and shooting high-powered bullets at people who have corporate jets.”

Now, as Perry tries to gain an edge on Romney – by far the wealthiest candidate in the race – the Texas governor is criticizing his wealth as a way to cast him as out of touch.

“Governor Perry has always released his tax returns and Mitt Romney and the other candidates should do the same,” Perry spokesman Mark Miner told Politico earlier today.

Perry has voluntarily released his tax returns going back to the 1980s. In his most recent returns, he reported nearly $217,500 in adjusted gross income in 2010, and $51,000 in federal taxes, according to the Texas Tribune.

Romney has never released his tax returns, and has declined requests to do so this year. His total worth is estimated at $190 million to $250 million, according to his personal financial disclosure statements and his campaign.

I want Cain to get the nomination. As multiple posters already said, let them destroy each other. Fine by me. It just makes me like Perry less. Republicans should avoid class warfare and identity politics. We won’t win that way.

P.S. You may want to switch to decaf.

I, for one do not think Perry’s intent is to create class warfare. Of course those who don’t like him will twist this to suit themselves. I work as a contractor for 2 of the largest oilfield service companies in the world, and I work here in Texas. Of the 100 or so company employees that I come in contact with, all except one supports Rick Perry. To those that think he can’t win another election here in Texas, they are grossly wrong.

Too late for this cycle to get one started. The conservatives gave up or declined to run.

No electable conservatives interested. Among Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Santorum is probably the only one I could vote for.

I figure I'll check in again in 2016.

I’d say it’s more heartless of Perry. What does it matter what Romney’s income is? Beat Romney over the head with the issues, not class warfare. Your post reeks of envy.

I don’t judge people on how much they make. That was the point of my post. I don’t think you understand what class warfare is. Being against class warfare means you don’t judge people based on income or wealth.

Also, class warfare has nothing to do with being “classy”. If you read my posts in the comments section, you will see that I’m for Cain, against Romney, and not too thrilled about Perry.

You can have the last word.

All I read at present is you appear to be protecting Wee Willie Mitty from the Big Bad Nana Lady and any others who refuse to vote for him...

Personally I do not envy Romney his 40+ years of pushing abortions...

I haven’t sent you a single Freepmail. I have said everything to you in the comments section. Whatever you think you received from me via FReepmail is not mine. It must be some type of spam using my screen name. I have not been rude to you, or anyone, in the comments area.
