WASHINGTON Rick Perry, after calling Mitt Romney a fat cat, today also called on the former Massachusetts governor to release his income tax returns, an indication that Perry will increasingly make an issue of Romneys wealth in the Republican presidential primary.
The strong charges from Perry are striking coming from a candidate who himself two months ago accused President Obama of trying to engage in class warfare and shooting high-powered bullets at people who have corporate jets.
Now, as Perry tries to gain an edge on Romney by far the wealthiest candidate in the race the Texas governor is criticizing his wealth as a way to cast him as out of touch.
Governor Perry has always released his tax returns and Mitt Romney and the other candidates should do the same, Perry spokesman Mark Miner told Politico earlier today.
Perry has voluntarily released his tax returns going back to the 1980s. In his most recent returns, he reported nearly $217,500 in adjusted gross income in 2010, and $51,000 in federal taxes, according to the Texas Tribune.
Romney has never released his tax returns, and has declined requests to do so this year. His total worth is estimated at $190 million to $250 million, according to his personal financial disclosure statements and his campaign.

"Perry will increasingly make an issue of Romneys wealth"
If Perry had said it the sentence would have read: "I will increasingly make an issue..."
“Watching Perry and Romney go at each other is like watching the Nazis fight the Soviets, or Saddam Hussein attack the Iranian mullahs, or Shiites fight Sunnis.”
That’s an excellent analogy. Someone had better flip the lights back on, because Perry’s vermin are back. (And how blessed a vacation from them we had!)
Neither of us can prove what his intent is, so I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
NO. Perry just has to be Perry.
Bottom line is we will find out in 70 days how this whole thing will end up or at least the direction is seems to be going.
Perry’s acting like a bitter, back-biting bitch.
Keep him in Texas, please.
Rino on Rino, the beltway operatives are sucking both of them dry day by day.

Really embarrassing
He’s the only one trying to take Romney down.
No other candidate will go after Romney.
I will give Rick S. a hat tip though during the last debate.
They list Perrys one year income and then Romneys total net worth? Im 100% anti Romney and could care less that they are making him look like a fat cat but Perry isnt going to look good going this route. Class warfare is class warfare.
Disagree about what? We should not jump to conclusions since we don’t know.
We disagree about his intentions. I think he is attempting to use class warfare. Rick Perry does not get the benefit of the doubt from me. What does it matter what Romney is worth? Perry should just point out Romneycare and all of Romney’s flip-flopping.
We weren’t in nearly as bad a shape when Clinton was in. If we can possibly get back in the black by 2020, it will take major effort.I’m not sure we can. I’d say go for it, Perry, Lets see what you’ve got!
I am in complete agreement IF that is what Perry was doing but we do not know that. We do know from the story that Perry and the others have released income tax returns and Perry is asking Romney to do the same. That is reasonable.
Where does it say that all the other candidates have released their tax returns?
Rereading it does not say all the others have. It is left unclear but still, we do not know that Perry’s strategy is to create class warfare. I hope it is not but asking the others to release their tax returns is reasonable.
So you want Romney to get the nomination and then Obama can beat him to death over his wealth? That's real smart...NOT!
Better now than later. If a candidate can't take the warmth of a primary they sure can't take the heat of the general!
And the media isn't helping Perry!
