SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is taking significant steps to redefine his candidacy as his battle for the Republican nomination intensifies, including unveiling a tax overhaul plan that would give people the option of paying a 20 percent flat tax on income.
.........Among the new faces who are joining Mr. Perrys campaign is Joe M. Allbaugh, who managed the 2000 presidential race of George W. Bush and will be a senior adviser to the campaign. Mr. Allbaugh served as a director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the Bush administration and has been a longtime associate of Mr. Perry.
Tony Fabrizio, the pollster in Bob Doles 1996 campaign and in a variety of other races, also will join the campaign as a senior adviser. Stanton Anderson, who served as the general counsel to Ronald Reagans 1980 campaign, will be the campaigns liaison with Congress. Fred Maas will be a senior adviser.
Mr. Perrys media strategy will be directed by a team that will now include Curt Anderson, Jim Innocenzi and Nelson Warfield. The men have worked on national campaigns and have been deeply involved in the advertising effort that is set to begin this week.
Mr. Perrys aides have indicated that the ad campaign is imminent; they have been hinting for some time that it would begin this week or next.

The more I see of Perry, the more he makes me think he’s GWB’s illegitimate half-brother and about half as sharp. I’m not trying to be funny either.
I’ll vote for whoever wins the primary. That’s about all I can say about this bunch of candidates.
Doesn’t Newt have a tax plan? Maybe thing will get fleshed out better when Newt and Cain have their Lincoln/Douglas debate.
The fact is that power-mad politicians will break the rules. We the People must not give them any more opportunities for unintended consequences. Empowering some groups more than others is fodder for people like Price and Emanuel.
20-20-0, eh? What prevents them from raising it to 25-25-0 or 50-50-0 or 100-100-100?
And the payroll tax? Still there, eh?
And of course, this is all on top of my state sales tax.
All this time, I didn’t think that Rick Perry was actually dumb; he just played dumb on TV. Obviously, I gave him too much credit.
Found the quote I was looking for that fits "empowerment zones":
The people know that it isnt a powerful federal government that solves problems in their lives, but rather it is the people themselves. It is the people who create jobs, it is the people who cure diseases and invent new ways to solve complex problems, it is the people who take care of their families, it is the people who volunteer time and give money to charity, and it is the people who make the country work. (p.184)

None of these candidates can debate Obama, except Newt.
What a pathetic crop of wanna-be’s. We are in a sorry state.
Perry can NOT debate. Done.
By revitalizing inner cities you get business back and people back to work and off welfare and off unemployment.
My choices are Cain and Newt. I’ll write one of them in if I have to.
I disagree. Perry is a true conservative, with experience.
He’s governed well for 10 plus years, with only 3 issues that keep coming up.
His record on life, marriage, small government, the 10th Amendment, and fighting to secure the border is proof.
Perry hiring Joe Allbaugh, who worked for Rudy Giuliani last time. Perry and Romney now fighting over the liberal Republicans.
How does that make Newt executive material?
Not to mention his stand on global warming and other baggage.
“By revitalizing inner cities you get business back and people back to work and off welfare and off unemployment.”
A bailout is a bailout. Even the “inner cities” would be better off if we hadn’t considered them “too big to fail” for far too long.
The problems of the “inner cities” are largely due to corruption, fed by even more powerful Federal government corruption.
Let the States do their job, don’t give more power to the Federal government, and the people will be better off in the long run.
Then vote for Rick Perry because that is what he wants -- a conservative ascendancy. He's been telling Mexican presidents to build their middle class. If that happened -- and it has an excellent chance with President Perry pushing it forward -- it would be a win-win for us as we'd have a secure border, a strong neighbor to our south and many people living here in the U.S. (legal and illegal) would return to Mexico to help build their economy.
Rick Perry wants the border sealed, safe and no amnesty.
Catch up.
He’s had 10 years to secure that border! Instead he offers up in state tuition to illegals
Perry:
“..My plan also abolishes the death tax once and for all, providing needed certainty to American family farms and small businesses.
..To help older Americans, we will eliminate the tax on Social Security benefits, boosting the incomes of 17 million current beneficiaries who see their benefits taxed if they continue to work and earn income in addition to Social Security earnings.
We will eliminate the tax on qualified dividends and long-term capital gains to free up the billions of dollars Americans are sitting on to avoid taxes on the gain.
....Cut, Balance and Grow also gives younger workers the option to own their Social Security contributions through personal retirement accounts that Washington politicians can never raid. Because young workers will own their contributions, they will be free to seek a market rate of return if they choose, and to leave their retirement savings to their dependents when they die.”
AND there’s more.

It is NOT Texas' job to secure the border nitwit. Why don't you send some money and lawmen to add to our state tax dollars and Rangers who are being used to hold our shoulder against the door to help YOU?
Arizona and Alabama have taken action, why can’t Perry? Because he doesn’t want to!
Oh, so it includes private retirement accounts? And you say that 9-9-9 can’t pass? Wake up and smell what you’re shoveling.
This plan is a joke and so is Rick Perry.
