President Obamas decision to pull all U.S. forces out of Iraq by Dec. 31 is an absolute disaster that puts the burgeoning Arab democracy at risk of an Iranian strangling, said an architect of the 2007 troop surge that turned around a losing war.
Retired ArmyGen. John M. Keane was at the forefront of persuading President George W. Bush to scuttle a static counterinsurgency strategy and replace it with 30,000 reinforcements and a more activist, street-by-street counterterrorism tactic.
Today, even with that strategy producing a huge drop in daily attacks, Gen. Keane bluntly told The Washington Times that the United States again is losing.
I think its an absolute disaster, said Gen. Keane, who advised Gen. David H. Petraeus when he was top Iraq commander. We won the war in Iraq, and were now losing the peace.
U.S. troops will be vacating Iraq at a time when neither Baghdads counterterrorism skills nor its abilities to protect against invasion are at levels needed to fully protect the country, say analysts long involved in the nearly nine-year war.
Forty-four hundred lives lost, Gen. Keane said. Tens of thousands of troops wounded. Over a couple hundred thousand Iraqis killed. We liberated 25 million people. There is only one Arab Muslim country that elects its own government, and that is Iraq.
We should be staying there to strengthen that democracy, to let them get the kind of political gains they need to get and keep the Iranians away from strangling that country. That should be our objective, and we are walking away from that objective.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday warned Iran not to miscalculate the U.S. decision to withdraw its troops.

Any action after that contemplated by the moron in charge, will be barn door diplomacy. That would be after the departure of the horse. Or simply said BEE ESS!
We will send a very harsh letter to the UN, nah, nah, nah. Bad boy, take that.
Does it really matter? This year or two years from now. When we leave Iraq will tear itself apart without help from Iranians.
Different Islamic sects will be fighting each other, they all will be killing Christians, and Jews, and the Iranians merely have to wait and the place will be handed to them.
We are the only stability Iraq has and they wants us gone.
This would be the time for general officer resignations, if they have serious issues with the plan.
The current Iraqi leadership is bluffing, typical Arab-style
Everyone always expects the US will give the Arabs somne deal to save face and make the leaders richer, and do what everyone knows is the prudent strategic move
Boy are they gonna be surprised whan Barky actually pulls our troops
It’s all in the Master plan of The One. Radicalize Egypt and Libya (which announced yesterday they will be an Islamic state under Sharia law) then pull out the troops from Iraq so Iran can take over, and then *walla* Those evil Joos will be crushed once and for all and our first foreign born Islamic POTUS will be seen as a Martyr.
Not surprising. Hussein's real goal is advance islamic radicalism and turn all the Middle Eastern countries into islamic dictatorships and drive out all Christians. Egypt, and soon Libya are the examples.

Don’t worry, they won’t miscalculate. I’m sure they’ve been fully briefed on what obama’s true intentions are...
As the General states what Iraq now has is paid for in blood, The chief wizard of smart does not care about the sacrifice that was made to get to this point or what happens to Iraq after we leave. He is washing his hands of this and as usual “victory” is not in his lexicon. He is the singly most unimpressive leader that I can recall.
Hillary in says we have our ally in Turkey. I don’t think she has been paying attention unless she means an ally in selling Israel and the Kurds down the river.
The plan is perfect.
All MY guns are oiled, operational, fully loaded with enough ammo (and family/squad) to do a lot of damage when the time comes.
ozero's the plant that neutered the US while the muhamadans march across the planet and men in position to more effectively and timely DO something do nothing, leaving the job to us, the ones that actually worked to have this nation.
Do you know what book this refers to?
The “Arab Spring” has produced and is producing a chain of anti-American AQ/MB associated states covering nearly all of North Africa. All of those demonstrations, each of which was aimed against a ruler who was either a close friend or ally, were organized and supported by the Illegal’s accomplices. With the demise of Mubarak and the lynching of Quaddafi the message to each ruler of an Islamic state is clear:
You save yourself by joining the radical Islamists, with whom Obama is really allied, not by supporting America because, if you support America and oppose AQ/MB, Obama will have you deposed and, quite possibly, murdered.
Hence, the current ruler of Iraq booted us out to protect himself. Now he can be counted on to start romancing Iran as fast as he can simply to assure his own survival.
In short, the Illegal is a traitor, a communist, a secret Mudslime, and a bitter, virulent hater of America and Americans who is out to destroy and is deliberately destroying our international position in the passionate hope of helping our worst enemies, including Iran, to defeat us.
I was waiting for someone with oo to stand up. Now we know why Petreus got moved to the CIA.
Obama just wants the money to spend on “votes”.
No one, most particularly Iran, should miscalculate about our continuing commitment to and with the Iraqis going forward,
No one, most particularly North Vietnam, should miscalculate about our continuing commitment to and with the South Vietnamese going forward,
Ah the assurances of a democrat...
Yep, it is worse than telling our former allies that they are on their own. We actually try to undermine and overthrow them in favor of Islamic terrorists.
