Romney's Trouble With Truth Extends Beyond Illegal Lawn Care Employees
Big Government ^ | October 23, 2011 | AWR Hawkins

Mitt Romney is always quick to lambast other Republicans for being career politicians, as if this is his first rodeo and he is a political newcomer. However, the truth is he’s been in politics for over seventeen years, many of which have been spent appealing to liberals and moderates and fighting to keep from being identified with Ronald Reagan.

Yet the more one goes back and listens to the things Romney’s been saying during his nearly two decades of public service, the more one has to wonder why he thought someone would link him to Reagan in the first place.

....trying to unseat Senator Ted Kennedy in 1994, Romney said:

“I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S.Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, that we should sustain and support it. And I sustain and support that law.”

.......And on guns, Romney would be a disaster. For example, while trying to the secure the Republican nomination that eventually went to John McCain, Romney appeared on ‘Meet the Press’ with Tim Russert and said:

“I don’t line up 100% with the NRA. I supported the assault weapon ban [as governor].”

And he went on to explain that he supported the BradyLaw in its original form.

What I’ve learned by listening to Romney is that you have to be aware of the fact that he thinks well enough on his feet to slip past troublesome topics and seize on others more favorable to his ambitions. This lets him get away with telling a few half-truths (or half-lies, depending on how you like to frame it).

For instance, when....

Wonderful. That works really great for all the responses to other posts you have ever made.

Luckily we can get news from other outlets.

Perry Regains His Footing at IFFC [Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition] Event ……”I’d have a spring in my step today if I was the Perry campaign in Iowa. Again, this was the candidate that many were expecting when he entered the race.”…..

Clearly Mitt’s poll numbers are inflated.

All of our worries will go away once the GOP primary results start coming in.

Just like Mitt!

The primaries will be welcome.

I’ve seen a lot of polls...

Many of them have Mitt down in single digits with Perry, while Cain, Paul, and Newt are in double digits.... with Cain carrying a very heavy lead.

Then I see national polls with Romney and Cain in a virtual tie.

Something smells.

I hear ya.

Now the “word” is that Perry needs to “attack” Cain.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Nice for Mitt, huh?

I think Mitt thinks he is Teflon coated.

He is too slick by a long shot for me to support him or vote for him.

The topic of giving illegals college tuition breaks at any amount is just making me scream. They are taking away a seat in a college that rightly belongs to an AMERICAN citizen. IF they do get to attend our colleges, they are still ILLEGALLY here. NO EMPLOYER can legally hire them. The incremental movement to force Americans to accept illegal intruders is going to have blowback sooner or later. It just doesn’t work.

IF Mitt did this- which doesn’t frankly surprise me—then it is another reason why I will work to get others to NOT vote for him.

Cain is looking better & better.

Mitt is scared.

And he should be.

He’s an empty suit.

Well, if you thought Perry bombed on attacking Mitt, just wait and see what happens when he takes a swing at Herman.

It will NOT be pretty (for Perry)

"Oh, geez, but you can support Cain who supports Romney. Go figure."

So you are saying Cain supports Romney? Then why in the hell is he wasting his time & money?
Cain might have supported Romney in '08. I don't have a problem with that. Who else was running? We wound up with MCLAIM. The reason ZERO won. . . . . . .

That, too. Now he says he's willing to be Romney's VP and Romney is praising Cain and Cain certainly isn't criticizing Romney.

Frankly, it's disgusting.

It’s there so other FReepers can listen and come to their own conclusions.

I think the conclusion of most FReepers is that La Raza is a racist organization. But Rick Perry is in good company as far as speaking to them - George W. Bush, Karl Rove, John McCain, and Barry Obama all addressed them as well.

Not saying it’s right, but IF Romney is the nominee, many conservatives will stay home.

Some people mistakingly think that Romney is the only one who can win against Obama, but on the contrary, he would be the one who causes many, many conservatives to stay home for the General Election.

When you vote in the primaries, remember: Anybody but Romney.

“Romney also was proud of the fact that he gave free health care to illegals with his Romneycare, and he thanked Obama for putting the same thing in Obamacare.

That is the fact and it is on tape for all to see.”

Really? I hadn’t heard that one yet. But since Romney has flip-flopped on virtually everything else, I’m not surprised. Do you have a link to a video on that?
