Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, who left office in disgrace after a highly publicized affair with his Argentine mistress, has joined the Fox News Channel as a paid contributor.
Sanford famously told staffers and the press that he was hiking the Appalachian trial in June 2009 when he was in fact visiting his mistress, Maria Belen Chapur, in Argentina.

So, uh, where’s the beautiful Maria in all this? She still around?
Perhaps he and Elliot Spitzer can interview each other about their interesting lives some day.
Seriously, the guy is a joke. Hate to see Fox following CNN into the gutter and hiring a Spitzer-like idiot. There must be 100 people right here on FR who could contribute better. Every time I see Sanford I'm either going to change the channel or laugh. Terrible hire.
This is just sleazy.
EEEEEWWWWW!!”...
Me, too. I have been heading that way fast for a few months now..They are all after ratings, whatever that takes..I suppose FOX thinks people will tune in to see the man who did all that with very few consequences. It seems the media wants to teach American children that adultery is just another lifestyle and has nothing to do with character..Isn't that what kids learned from Bill Clinton who wanted to know what the meaning of “Is” is? I know that many politicians and others who become visible because of powerful positions begin to live like alley cats..However, once exposed, there should be an uncomfortable public price to pay.
Bad move, Fox. This guy proved to be completely bereft of integrity. He had it all going for him (many, especially here on FR, called for him to run for President), but he pissed it all away.
I had the same thoughts. Great minds think alike and ours do too.
They already have Geraldo Rivera and Bob Bechel on the payroll, so sometimes they must need to fill some quota.
"Those guys" were not mocking "Mary M" (I assume you are referring to Mary(the)Magdalene). The "teachers of the law" and the "Pharisees" were bringing "a woman caught in adultery" to him for judgement, an obvious trap.
There is no Biblical, or other evidence that Mary from Magdala was a prostitute.
That being said, as a native South Carolinian, I do wish Mark Sanford would fade quietly into the background. I cannot imagine being in Jenny's shoes, and having to see this guy on TV, or explain to my two you sons why their philandering "daddy" (I use that term loosely) is still embarrassing them by keeping himself in the spotlight.
He seems to have no sense of shame.
*snicker*
Best post!
(And another reason not to have cable tv.)
Wondering the same thing. Where's the soulmate?
I looked it up recently, when the topic arose on the North Carolina forum. As of an interview in August this year, he considered their relationship ongoing.
AGREED!
Mark Sanford needs to slink away from the public eye
Of all the people qualified to be a news commentator, why dredge up this man who so embarrassed so many innocent and trusting people.
Now he needs to go live quietly with his mistress.
“That may be true, but the gov. is the elected chief executive of a state, shouldnt his whereabouts be known at all times, at least to his staff?”
For what reason? South Carolinians do all kinds of things without needing a governor.
Bring back shunning & fire & brimstone!
I haven’t paid ANY attention to Fox since Ailes hired Rivera.
At the time, I eMailed Ailes to register how disappointed I was at this ‘final’ betrayal of the notion Fox was, somehow, a ‘credible’ outlet for news and opinion.
His response was a snotty note to the effect that ‘ ... every viewpoint must be represented and, after all, Rivera had a rather significant Q and following.’
Given that was his view of what constituted ‘fair and balanced’, I have simply neglected to pay ANY further attention to ALL of Fox News ever since. I NEVER go there for ANYTHING ...

A mistake is picking up chunky peanut butter instead of smooth. Mark Sanford is a loser who disgraced the office of Governor of SC as well as himself personally. He has the character and moral compass of a roach. While its not agains’t the law to be a slimeball why choose this guy to be a Fox news contributor when there are many other better choices out there?
I don’t understand why you don’t see how wrong it was that Gov. Sandford basically snuck out of his state and the country, in fact.
Freakish horrible things can happen at any time, and almost by definition they come without warning.
Suppose something dreadful had happened in So. Carolina and the gov. was nowhere to be found. Our gov. Christie came in for a boatload of criticism when he was in Florida during that bad snowstorm last Christmas. (This was compounded by the fact that the Lt. Gov. was also away. She was in Mexico, iirc. Of course what made this doubly annoying was that the Lt. Gov. is a brand new office here instituted because we’ve been running through Govs a lot recently, recall how McGreevy resigned and Corzine was out of commission after that very bad car accident he was in, but I digress!)
Or, suppose something bad happened in Argentina and he couldn’t return to SC?
And the reason he had for tipping out? To engage in adulterous behavior.
I don’t know, to me there is just no way this is not just selfish, self-indulgent, immature, and very bad.
a lot of phariees in this country. no wonder atheism is looking more and more attractive to more and more people
