If you have ever wondered about the governments ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.
On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

They already test the Emergency Broadcast System. It comes right across the top of the screen during a show. The initial beep scares the crap out of me.
That’s an awfully interesting statement to throw out there...where did you read that - do you have a link? Thanks.

“There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear.”
What if some mole inside the US Government gets hold of this technology and turns it on them and the general public? Just a thought — those in charge don’t always keep close watch on stuff, an example being, the WIKILEAKS memos.
As many folks who sleep with a tv or radio on, I strongly suspect 2 PM is the wiser choice...otherwise you really would have some heart attacks from the rudely awakened.
