Most self-affiliated members of Tea Party Nation, one of the largest national organizations for the grassroots conservative movement, would vote for Mitt Romney as president if confronted with a choice between him or President Obama, according to a poll of members released to The Hill on Friday.
The group surveyed its members this week in an informal poll posted at the groups website. The question asked was: If Romney is the GOP nominee, what will you do in the general election?
Fifty-two percent of about 1,150 respondents said they would hold their nose and vote for Romney if he becomes the GOP nominee, while 23 percent said they would vote for an unspecified third-party candidate. Twelve percent said they would not vote in the presidential election at all if the choice is between Romney and Obama.

Mitt Romney's nomination to the GOP candidacy would depress the base by 48%. This is huge. How can Romney win with half of his base gone just like *snaps fingers* that?
This is half of “Tea Party Nation” not half of the bloomin’ GOP.
Conservatives are principled.
I’m of the opinion that we conservatives outnumber the republicans.
Why else would Chris Christie have had to tell the GOP numerous times that he wasn’t running? He was being repeatedly begged behind the scenes by the establishment.
The republicans are not convinced Romney can win the primaries, and thought Christie could fool us better.
Half the Tea Partiers is still a big number of people sitting home not voting — or voting 3rd party.
Romney’s nomination is a sure win for Obama.
I’m one of them. In a contest between Romney and Obama, I will definitely vote for Romney. A third party candidate would hand victory to Obama and accomplish nothing else.
That's true.
I propose that all of the Independent TPers, hold their noses, and register in the GOP prior to the primaries in their states.
If we don't we could end up splitting the conservative vote enough to allow Mitt to slip through.
Just like mclame did.
FLASHBACK:
Well, I guess the question is, how much of the GOP is made up of the Tea Party? If Romney gets 85% of the GOP votes, and 50% of the Tea Party votes, will that be enough to beat Obama? I don’t know.
I know I’m one of the 48%. I will not vote for Romney. I believe he will do more damage than Obama. At least if Obama is President the GOP Senators and Reps act like Republicans. They won’t do that if Romney is President.
I got burned by the GOP enough with mccain.
A minimum 25% decrease in the turnout of the most likely GOP voters is the end of a campaign no matter how you look at it.
‘Tea Party Nation’? Anything like ‘Red Sox Nation’? Sure hope not...born losers.
Which leads me to wonder: if you were a German and could go back to 1932, who would you vote for in the Weimar elections? The Nazis or the Communists?
Conservatives are principled
Principled but stupid, that's a great combination......
Romneys nomination is a sure win for Obama.
My fear as well. Herman Cain is looking better every day. Even a Newt candidacy is starting to sound good.
I remain one of the 75%ers - that "anyone but Romney" coalition.
Who is the lesser of two evils? /s
I guess Obama’s getting another term. Maybe we need to hit rock bottom before people learn. Let me go see how much dried rice and peanut butter I have...
what we need is a TEA PArty march on GOP headquarters
NO MORE DEMOCRAP-LITE CANDIDATES!!!!
Exactly right.
Unfortunately, there are PLENTY on here who will vote for WHOEVER the (R) is, and we get RINO after RINO after RINO, from the Establishment Elite and promotion via the State-Run-Media. Those who hold their nose and vote for the "chosen one" are counted on by the Republican Party to get their hand-picked Candidate through the Primary.
IF real Conservatives would NOT VOTE FOR THE RINO's, they'd get the message.
Following this statement, you can count on those that say "wasted vote" on 3rd Party, "handing the White House to Obama", etc....they will vote for whomever they're told.
Those 12% better get their collective azzes to vote...especially for the Senate candidates & House. There is no reason to sit at home.
