Gun owners with permits from 25 states, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to carry their weapons concealed in Wisconsin next month.

The reciprocity list was announced late Thursday by Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen along with an updated set of frequently asked questions at www.doj.state.wi.us/about the new concealed carry law set to take effect Nov. 1.

"This newly created page provides important updates, including a link to the emergency rules, application and training requirements information, and a model certificate to serve as a guide for instructors providing students with proof of training. Permit application forms will be made available online and by mail on November 1, 2011," a Department of Justice announcement read.

The DOJ has also announced Wisconsin will recognize concealed carry permits issued by the following 25 states:

Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

Permits issued by Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands also will be recognized in Wisconsin

I’m really disliking this split between Florida and Utah ccw’s. It makes training more expensive and unnecessary.

Applications will be available on this web page beginning November 1, 2011. After you complete the application you can mail it to:

Wisconsin Department of Justice
Attn: License Unit
PO Box 7130
Madison, WI, 53707-7130

If you do not have online access, you can mail a request to the above address and an application will be mailed to you.

Your application must:

•Be completely filled out
•Be signed in all areas indicated, to include the statement that the information provided in the application and any document submitted with the application is true and complete to the best of the applicant’s knowledge.
•Include a check made out to the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the amount of $50.
•Include a copy of your proof of training.

I'm so mad I could spit. Waiting until the last second only guarantees that I won’t get my permit until after Christmas. And the training requirements are a friggin’ joke. Grrrr......

What is the difference between Florida and Utah on CCW?

...and Oklahoma? This state will allow any state-issued license whether the other state recognizes the OK license or not.

Not all states are the same. My Indiana license is no good in Ohio so I need a non-res CCW. Traditionally, Florida has been a good choice but now more places are offering Utah license training too. Just click the link above and you will see where you can and cannot carry.

When they went “Shall Issue” here in Iowa, they were completely inundated for about the first 6-8 weeks. It was taking about 30 days.

I waited until about the third month. Walked into the Sheriffs office and walked out with my permit in about 15 minutes.
