GOP presidential hopefuls Rick Perry and Rick Santorum will join Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on a pheasant hunting trip this weekend in Iowa, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.
The trio will be at the Loess Hills Hunting Preserve for the annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt, which is hosted by King. Perry will hunt with the congressman on Saturday, while Santorum will join him on Sunday, according to the candidates' campaign schedules.
Perry and Santorum, who will be looking to bolster their conservative bona fides on the weekend campaign swings through the early voting state, would score a major coup by landing the endorsement of the influential Republican congressman. King is good friends with another Republican candidate, Michele Bachmann, but has held off on making an endorsement.

Santorum doesn’t look so bad in comparison, but some people are easier to forgive than others. Romneycare, an admitted model for Obamacare and the fact that to this day, Romney is actually proud of it. Strike!
Newt, the bench- his IQ is what and he bought into MMGW to the point where he thought cap-and-trade was a great idea? Then there’s his adultery problem . . . strike???
Bachmann, bad campaign advice, that HPV vaccine should’ve never been a point of attack, and she hired a known snake as a campaign manager. Strike!
Paul . . . Strike!
Cain, he’ll crater soon, he’s not up for this, the MSM will make a point to destroy him and he’s not suspicious at all of the MSM, back-pedals . . . strike?
Perry, worst defense of in-state tuition for illegals possible, collects money and bores the country to tears by doing so . . .strike?
I told you why I wasn’t getting specific about Herman Cain, I still consider him to be a viable contender, who has been attacked enough already. I don’t think that I said anything about Perry, either.
Me great-great-grandfather, a bona fide Baron, used to go peasant hunting!
Newt has made lots of mistakes, but he is not afraid to admit it. What bothers me most about Newt is that I’m not sure that he is fully committed to conservative positions for the right reasons, deep belief. I’m afraid that Newt’s conservativism is more based on what works, rather than because it is right.
I think that Gingrich is a pragmatist, like Romney and Obama. Now, there is really nothing wrong with being a pragmatist if the candidate has the right core beliefs to go with it.
Gingrich is smart, though, very smart and keeping him in the mix will keep the others on the right side.
Agree for the most part, except for Obama being a pragmatist - he’s always come off to me like Ron Paul, a rigid ideologue, in a clashing ideology from mine.
The trouble with being a pragmatist is that it can look very close to opportunism. I want the next POTUS to make Newt something like WH Chief of Staff, it would suit his personality.
Chief of staff - excellent idea.
Pragmatism and opportunism are not that far apart, that’s why it needs to be backed with deep held core beliefs that don’t include, the end justifies the means.
Is that supposed to be evidence that he’s ever fired a shotgun?
Why the antagonism and negativity?
As much as I admire Dick Cheney, I hope they don’t decide to take him along at the last minute!!!
Peasant hunting?
That means both Perry and Santorum are of the nobility, right?
Those poor peasants. They just hard working vassals.
I highly doubt that we will have any birds this year. The damned skunk population is WAY up.
I’ll save my time and ammo for Bambi.
It’s my bad humor from debating more serious matters on FR too much....sorry!
I’m glad they are not going at exactly the same time!
