Perry and Santorum going pheasant hunting with Rep. Steve King in Iowa

GOP presidential hopefuls Rick Perry and Rick Santorum will join Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on a pheasant hunting trip this weekend in Iowa, according to a report in the Des Moines Register.

The trio will be at the Loess Hills Hunting Preserve for the annual Col. Bud Day Pheasant Hunt, which is hosted by King. Perry will hunt with the congressman on Saturday, while Santorum will join him on Sunday, according to the candidates' campaign schedules.

Perry and Santorum, who will be looking to bolster their conservative bona fides on the weekend campaign swings through the early voting state, would score a major coup by landing the endorsement of the influential Republican congressman. King is good friends with another Republican candidate, Michele Bachmann, but has held off on making an endorsement.

I read through the first 11 posts and finally yours has got the picture. I think Governor Perry is giving Santorum a serious look as his running mate. Also Rep. Steve King served as the ranking Republican on the Immigration subcommittee since 2007 and has long been an outspoken foe of illegal immigration. This should be a good development.

Hopefully plotting the destruction of Mitt Romney. I will take any of them... even Paul or Huntsman... over Mitt.

I think that he’s one of the smartest and most conservative candidates in the primary race.

Eva, I met him last week at a non-political event at the Arlington-Mansfield Pregnancy Center. The guy blew me away. His story is incredible, two different times his wife was told by doctors to abort, they have two beautiful children to prove that holding strong to your beliefs that life is always the right choice is always going to bless you in the end. I'm a Perry supporter, but he is a man I could get behind.

Rick Santorum has been hunting with Cheney, among others before:

duck hunting, but that old article mentions pheasants, too.

He was not smart enough to keep his support away from Snarlin’ Arlen Sphincter when the Bush family and other GOparty elites told him to support Spector. That is what has totally cooked his goose. It is a shame that he can not even count on winning his own home state because of it.

His weakness to me is his liberal foreign policy. After 8 years of Bush and 3 years of Obama, I am done with nation building, sinking billions to democratize countries that don’t want democracy, wasteful foreign aid, and wars where the troops have their arms tied behind their back and that the American people get absolutely nothing out of. Santorum has made it clear he will continue that. Nothing personal against the guy, just a fundamental philosophical disagreement. I’m not against war, but it needs to either be for defense or for profit.

Well, backing Specter was a definite mistake. Santorum made a promise to Bush and thought he was doing the right thing. He wasn’t. He was putting partisan poltics above values. I think that he learned a very difficult lesson, though.

The reason that he lost his last election was because of his support for Specter.
Voters were disillusioned with Bush by that point and the excuse of being loyal to Bush, didn’t sit well with conservatives. The Democrats took advantage of this and put up an alleged pro-life candidate, another Catholic, whose father as a former moderate, pro-life Democrat governor of PA. The main problem with Casy jr. is that he is just not very smart and really has no core values or opinions of his own. ... but voters on both sides of the aisle were mad at Santorum.

Santorum’s biggest obstacle is his strong support for the defense of marriage and pro-life stance. Democrats and Rinos hate him for it.

Santorum is from an area of PA where hunting is very popular.

So, Santorum’s mistake in being more loyal to Bush, than to his own values, is worse than the mistakes of say, Mitt Romney’s Obamaneycare? It’s worse than Newt sitting on a bench with Pelosi? It’s worse than Bachman’s Gardisil statements? It’s worse than the looney Ron Paul foreign policy? Oh, and Cain has made mistakes as well.

I don’t see Santorum’s foreign policy as supporting foreign wars, so much as supporting the troops. I don’t think that there is a candidate in the race that supports Obama’s rules of engagement.

I’m glad that Obama is pulling our troops out of Iraq because leaving behind a small contingent would make them targets. I wish he’d do the same with Afghanistan, if he is not going to use them as Peace Corps volunteers, while tying their hands on defense.

Santorum is just a very principled conservative, that stands above all the rest (excpt Newt) in intelligence. Santorum is simply a good man.

Yup.

It wasn’t a “mistake,” it was a choice.

Those others were easy to disqualify. Santorum looked like the genuine article until his “mistake.”

And don’t think I didn’t notice your lack of specifics with regard to Cain. So far I have seen nothing that would cause me to disqualify him: and I’ve been actively FReeping for a loooooong time.

I doubt any of the them will be asking, in a John Kerry voice: ‘Kin I get me a huntin’ license in here?’

I’m not getting into the specifics of criticizing Cain because I’m not throwing him out of the contention. There have been enough criticisms of him lately.

Ron Paul made his BIG mistake when he endorsed the OWS protesters. I’ve never heard a Libertarian endorsing a protest agains greed before. Ayn Rand would have had a fit.

You were pretty specific about your criticism of the others. Why did you treat Herman different?

If he’s the only one you didn’t “throw out” then why rise to Santorum’s defense?

We’re going on a RINO hunt!
We’re gonna catch a big one!
I’m not afraid!
Are you?
Not me!
We’re going thru the tall grass
We’re going thru the short grass
Hey! Look! There’s a little tree
Well, let’s shinny on up it
Whoa! It gets a little skinny up here at the top
See anything over that way?
Anything over that way?, Uh, oh!,
Oh, no! Whoa! Agh! let’s get down!
We’re going on a RINO hunt.
We’re going to catch a big one.
