Cain's Vision for Renewing Cities across the USA
Herman Cain ^ | 21OCT11 | Herman Cain

It's time to stop projecting and guessing about what Cain wants to do and why. Here it is, in his own words.

It's a PDF. I don't know how to post it here.

The federal gov’t has been using the ‘carrot and stick’ approach to get local gov’ts to cooperate since we’ve had a federal gov’t. That is not going to change.

The fact is, it’s the local control of these areas by democrats that *has* caused the problem. By forcing them to knock their crap off, these places can be freed from an oppressive local gov’t.

The fed isn’t the only level of gov’t that kills the economy.

So Cain is nothing but the same old, same old?

John Stossel: “Are there any cases when abortion should be legal?”

Herman Cain: “I don’t think the government should make that decision.”

I’m saying that this is how our system works. How it’s always worked.

Did you see the rest of what I wrote?

That by offering incentives, the power of the federal government can be used to remove the burden of oppressive local governments.

Is that not worth commenting on?

In some ways its similar to Rick Snyder's "dictatorial" emergency manager law. Detractors scream that it overrides rightfully elected government (it does) but the simple reality is the how rightfully elected those local governments are is questionable at best.

Why not everywhere, why just the cities?

The federal government is more oppressive at this point anyways.

Treat everyone the same, not just special “zones”.

Detroit has 20% unemployment.

Focusing more energy in blighted areas helps us ALL. *I* don’t want to pay for welfare. Do you?

By focusing more energy in these areas, we make them productive even faster and relieve the taxpayer’s burden.

If we don’t do this, what reason would ANY business have to target these high-crime areas? The rest of the nation will bounce back and we’ll be stuck with the slums. Stuck *paying* for the slums.

With Cain’s plan, we can have millions of welfare recipients WORKING fast. It’s part of cutting government spending. Part of relieving our national debt.

How is this not a win-win for all of us?

Cutting off welfare, with some warning, would solve the unemployment problem real fast.

Here’s the speech in Detroit this morning:

Herman Cain introduces 999 “Opportunity Zones”

Cain appears to be far more knowledgeable about the current situation in Detroit than most FReepers.

When Reagan tried this he faced a hard core anti business city administration. There is still a lot of that attitude but Mayor Bing himself is a self made millionaire and pro business guy who isn’t afraid of fighting the unions.

Personally I think a lot of FReepers are more afraid of losing a whipping boy than anything.

yeah. And then we’ll have to pay for the riot mess.

Seriously. Cain has come up with a realistic solution to a problem. This will *work*.

We've already done a lot of serious cutting. We cut some 30,000 college students off food stamps. (Jenny Grandtheft gave all college kids food stamps) We've also imposed new strict limits on welfare including a 48 month cutoff.

Michigan is becoming increasingly republican because the vampires are fleeing to where the blood flows freely. Those of us who have toughed it out are seeing signs of a sunny day.

I’m not sure why Cain even put this out. It identifies problems that are already well known but really does not offer much in the way of solutions.

Most of the problems identified here are not things for the federal government to “fix”.

Cain would have done himself much better by coming out with a 10/10 or 15/15 plan. Something that defines a flat tax for business and personal taxes. I’d suggest that he add in any so-called nonprofit that does not feed, house or clothe humans. The abuse of the nonprofit corporation laws in America must be stopped!

If Detroit is a thriving economic center, like it was when my grandfather worked there, I wouldn’t mind at all.

Detroit wasn’t always like it is now. I would love to see this city saved.

BTW, Michigan is beautiful this time of year.
