How many of these 'conscientious' conservative women do you actually believe would not have an abortion if they were raped?
As a Roman-Catholic I agree with my Church that how a child is conceived is of no consequence to God. Yet I also wouldn't be presumptuous in judging another who chose the sin of abortion if raped and impregnated by some hideous monster. I myself opt to let God do the judging.

What is truly disheartening, and a bit sickening, is how some so-called conservatives are using this as a wedge issue just to hopefully gain points for their candidate. This is trailer park politics, but I reckon that since *Sarah* deserted them they need something to occupy their time.

Are you referring to Cain’s position on abortion, it is hard to differentiate his position from that of Obama’s views.

All of a sudden you and the other Cain supporters are so piously pro-life. Yet you all foamed from the mouth with fervor when Cain spoke about electrocuting Mexicans.

You're a blatant hypocrite.

I have also found that responding to Posts involving Abortion and drugs brings out definite opinions on them.

I accept yours as honest and would love to agree with you and the several others in the same vein, but life and death has a way of throwing curves.

I respect your views, and to a certain point agree, I just do not have the conviction that in no case should abortion be totally outlawed.

That’s what he believes in. Not what he would legislate.

If you took Cain literally based on the Morgan interview, he wouldn’t make any legislation. I don’t think that is what he meant, but every time Morgan asked him about what he’d actually do, Cain said he wouldn’t do anything.

I know Cain would do things, so to me the problem is that his position is so muddled nobody knows what he means.

And the proof of that is in the arguments yesterday. All day yesterday we had to put up with Cain supporters calling all the other freepers idiots because we didn’t “see” that Cain was talking about adoption (raising up a child).

And yet, when Cain put out his clarifying remarks (which again said nothing about whether he would support a law making abortion illegal), Cain said NOTHING about adoption. He said his answers were all about the limits of presidential power — which is of course exactly what his answers were to Morgan, and what the rest of us were saying.

Now, Cain needs to clarify his whole “presidential power” discussion, because if we overturn Roe v Wade, we are going to need presidential leadership to get legislation passed to save the children, and so far, Cain seems not to want to use the Presidential bully pulpit.

I have no doubts or questions whatsoever that all abortion is homicide; however, if there was a magic button I could push to end 95% of the abortions in this country, I would not refuse to push it because it didn't end 100% of them. I sometimes wonder if (for now) leaving exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother would not be simply recognizing the (tragic) political realities that ending all but a limited number of abortions would not be the most viable course of action at present based simply on the ability to garner support for it. We need to take a lesson from the left's will and ability to incrementally implement their agenda over the course of decades.

I am 100% pro-life, no exception for rape or incest. My reasons? The child resulting from rape/incest is perfectly innocent, AND, the woman carrying the child is re-traumatized by the abortion, not healed.

Excellent statement of what should be an obvious position, especially among born again Christians.

Having been on the front lines of the abortion battle for a quarter century,I have seen that this is not necessarily so.

Thank you for stating it so succinctly.

The biggest lie told to women and believed by them is that abortion is some kind of eraser. If anything, it has the exact opposite effect, and the effects last a lifetime.I've known of women in their sixties still traumatized by an abortion forty years before. Imagine hauling that load of guilt for so long and for far.

Thank God there is freedom in coming to Jesus Chirst, whose yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Here's a web page comparing Cain and Perry on abortion. It doesn't include any of the recent confused statements of Cain on the subject. But what is more interesting is the length of the two "sides" of the comparison.

Cain has 4 short sentences about his stated positions. On the Perry side, there are 8 paragraphs, with extensive quotes from Perry, and actions he has taken on pro-life causes.

Perry has been an outspoken advocate for the pro-life cause. He's dead wrong on a rape/incest exception, but he has been out in front on a host of issues that are important to the pro-life movement.

Cain vs Perry on Abortion:

It has one mistake on the Perry side, because it doesn't include his latest statements in support of a federal abortion constitutional amendment "I support the federal marriage amendment," Perry said, "and I also support the same with the issue of abortion."

Among the list of actual accomplishments: Parental notification, Parental consent, pro-adoption legislation, defunded planned parenthood, a sonogram bill, and "choose life" license plates.

Among his other pro-life stances -- strongly opposes and speaks out against embryonic stem cell research, denounces Roe V. Wade, supports a constitutional amendment banning abortion.

He has been a key speaker at pro-life rallies. Perry has put himself out on the front lines of the abortion debate.

So sure, feel free to attack him because he supports a rape/incest exception when proposing laws to make abortion illegal. It's the wrong stance.

But on the pro-life issue, among those running for President, Perry has the most pro-life accomplishments, and Cain has none.

Sorry honey. But I have been in Cain and Bachmanns camp (though more shake on her) from the get go. And, thank the Lord, I have become steadfastly pro-life. Only an idiot like you would chastize someone for standing up for the unborn.

Sadly, no one is ever going ot get elected in this nation by calling abortion “murder.” Heck, I’d wager they woudn’t even come close to the nomination.

Of COURSE politicians pander to EVERYONE. It’s their modus operandi. You didn’t really think that the Republicans were going to outlaw abortion did you?

At BEST you will get promises to appoint pro-life judges. In your wildest dreams will those judges over turn Roe, sending it back to the states.

But you can forget a GOP led constitutional amendment fight. Will never happen.

They fear that once we get what we want, we’ll stop voting for them. Abortion is the carrot, we are the horse. The goal is electoral power.

You made a very salient point, i.e., both Perry and Cain say they are pro-life, and whose to argue they are not? Yet only one of them has a record that proves he is, whilst the other does not.

My sister was beaten and raped by a man she had never seen before. This was long ago.

When our Mother and Daddy tried to get her to abort that SOB's bastard. She said, "It's my baby, too. It doesn't matter who the Father is. It's my baby and I love him."

Here is the director of the Tx Right to Life in an audio (radio) interview about Rick Perry's record on pro-life issues. It's quite good. Opens in a new window.
