Mr Wynne's DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) has teamed up with eco-experts Epic Electric for this newer model, taking a standard DMC12 model and ripping out the V6 petrol engine before fitting it with an electric powered version that produces the equivalent of 260bhp.
Once on the road it will accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds.
Mr Wynne said he 'got the idea for the battery-powered DeLorean after seeing the success of the Tesla Roadster, and think it would be a fitting tribute to the movie version of the car which famously needed 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to travel through time.'
Its 'Flux Power' battery takes 3.5 hours to charge with DMC claiming it will be able to travel around 100 miles.
And in a nod to the classic films starring Michael J Fox, the vehicle's interior has a docking station for the driver to connect their iPhone and Flux Capacitor app.
Electricity is supplied to the car through a charging port concealed behind the grille on the front.
The DMC EV will use 80 per cent of the DeLorean's original parts and will be flying off forecourts in 2013 - two years before the setting of Back to the Future II.
Inside, there are leather seats, a sat-nav and a sporty steering wheel and it is expected to have a price-tag of around £65,000.

They still have to use oil, gas and coal to recharge the darn thing when they plug it into the wall.
There is no green energy charging capacity for electric unless it happens to hook up to a hydro-dam charged site IMO.
I wonder what the charging time is for going back to the future. A week?

Just think...it used to go into the future (and the past)...but can only go 100 miles now.

I think I recall seeing that this company will build you a “new” DeLorean from new old stock parts. I think they’ll even do an update to the thing, refining it. But it’s pricey.
In reality, the VW van was the better vehicle.

Centralized large scale power production is far more efficient than nay car engine. Same reason nobody is saving money by running their home off a generator.
Electric motor efficiency: 90+%
Gas engine efficiency: 24% if you’re lucky.

I’m scratchin my head why they’d take a car where garbage powers a Mr. Fusion and turn it into an electric.
The "equivalent"? Electric motors are rated in HP, too. But there is no way that the batteries could put out 194 kW for more than a few minutes.
Big Oil bought the patent on Mr Fusion and burred it right next to the 200 MPG carburetor. They did not have the foresight to get the patent on the electric motor and battery.
Yes, these guys bought all of DMC’s parts warehouse stock either in BK court or just before DMC went into BK. They also bought a large percentage of the original tool and die and CnC equipment.
For some of the harder to find parts they are the only source on the planet, which makes for pretty good profit margins in their niche.
