Jack’s last act was to jump off the couch while I was sending the FR mail to DJ, so he could be next to me at my computer. I picked him him and went back to the couch to sit with him. I gave him some ice water and he sloshed his tongue in it and drank some. I massaged him and he his bowels moved normally, so I knew the end was near. We both went to sleep on my pillow, his face next to mine, and he didn’t wake up.
We buried him this morning, right beside the back sun deck’s steps, where he loved to sit, with the St. Francis Statue atop his grave that he liked to pee on. DrO’s trusted handyman, Andre’ who takes such good care of his Momma and things around here, dug the grave —— it is fitting for a human! —— so Jack is buried with his Sweetie, his China plate, his leash, and pictures of the grandchilden he raised.
DrO gave me a heavy tranquilzer last night, so I was unable to come back to write to you all.
I’m all right this morning now. Drinking a Bud Light...LOL. I have one more to go that’s icy cold in the fridge!!!
Jack had a very good life. He was very spolied. I wish all pets could be so sppoiled and loved.
Thank you all for your prayers. They worked. He died peacefully in his sleep without a whimper and he gave me time to prepare. I sent him to St. Francis clean with nails trimmed. Soaped him up three times, rinsed him four times and he relished his last bath and getting dried with the hair dryer, lying on the couch with me.
Now, let’s get onto this FReepathon!!!!

I’m sorry for you but happy that Jack was happy and comfortable. He’s in Heaven being scritched and told what a good pup he was. Jack did his job and deserves heaven.

Awww ... dear, sweet O. What a sad saga. Tears. All I can say is you gave him the sweetest last days and hours on earth, through all your pain, in kind with all the love and joy he gave you and your family all these years. I think it's such a blessing that he was so peaceful and so cherished and loved until the very end. You were his angel, truly .. pouring out such devotion, care and attention.
Doesn't make it any less heartbreaking, I know, but I know that the miraculous healing of time and God's mercy will bring you and Dr.O comfort through your hurt and tears now, with happy memories of all the years, in time and for always.
He's now crossed the Rainbow Bridge to glorious joy, awaiting the years til you meet again. Hope you're getting lots of hugs today .. mine are being virtually being sent to you, dear O, all day .. along with my love, sorrow for your heartache and always prayers.
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill, Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over
together.

I'm so sorry. Jack was a very lucky boy, not only in life, but when it was his time you were there with him. No dog has had a better owner, and no owner has had a better dog.
Our greyhound is buried here, in the woods. It's such a comfort to know she's there, in this place that she loved so much.

Dear sweet onyx, I have been off the web for a while and just now saw your post about Jack. Tears streaming down my face as I type. Funny how our babies can do this to us, huh? I'm so glad you were right there with him when he went.
I told our Molly to get with him at Rainbow Bridge, and introduce him to everybody. He'll be just fine, and so will you. When they're in our hearts, they're never really gone.
