AN 84-YEAR-OLD ex-university official savagely attacked by four young punks during a walk in Wissahickon Valley Park earlier this week theorizes that the beating he endured was a cruel game of "get the old geezer."
Jim Shea, a former vice president of university relations for Temple, from 1968 to 1983, walks up to five miles on Forbidden Drive, in Fairmount Park, three times a week, but that type of stamina wasn't enough to stave off the lowlifes who not only beat him bloody, but dealt a blow to one of the things he holds most dear - his pride.
Shea was near the Valley Green Inn, on Forbidden Drive, in the Wissahickon Valley Park, about 1:15 p.m. Monday when he was hit from behind.
"I felt a real something to the head, a real blow to the head from behind," he said. "It knocked me to the ground; that was the biggie."
Shea said the four assailants continued to beat him for minutes while he was on the ground. He said they were black, appeared to be between 16 and 20, and three of them were wearing La Salle sweatshirts.
Police and Shea said that at least one of the attackers used a rock to hit him, causing deep cuts above his eyes. They all kicked and punched him while he was on the ground, conscious the entire time.
"There was only one I really saw well because he came back to kick me," Shea said. "The others spent a great deal of the time laughing."

Not every section of the country is “conquered” yet. Very little of that happens around because everyone knows that everyone else is carrying. I am free and I intend to stay that way.
Jeff Cooper was always on target.
I instruct my classes that the only time you should be in Condition White is when you are at home, in bed, and asleep.
Every other minute you had better be in Yellow and ready to go to Orange.
Most of them are to fat to fit in the holster, too.
A gun is my constant companion because it's cheaper to feed than a cop.
Forbidden Drive sounds more frightening than Martin Luther King BLVD!
This kind of attack shows how far our culture has devolved.

“In a healthy society, elderly people are treated with respect, even reverence. This kind of attack shows how far our culture has devolved. And Im sure there are plenty of liberals who will defend the savages who beat Mr. Shea.”

” This is the fruit of the tribal hatred that’s been stoked by poverty pimps for over a generation, and these are relatively good times.”
Exactly!
Yes, it’s very sad, and yes, that means you must take “combat zone” vigilance with you on walks.
“Beat up whitey, but only at a rate of occurrence that wont cause whitey to fight back.”
Glad I don’t live in an area like this. I’d probably borrow these same tactics to fight back if I did.
Let’s see, this was Philadelphia?
The attackers will get citations if caught.
Or how about a concerned citizen driving by playing, Chase the Low Life Punks Down Street Until They Beg For Mercy? They might recognize the motorist, but not the people just standing there and laughing.
CWII — let’s get on with it! It’s long overdue!
Another victim of the Knockout Game.
Here’s some things I have learned working the streets and seeing how these cats move.
They will determine what they are going to do within a couple of seconds of seeing you. They will also alert any compatriots with looks, hand gestures or head bobs that you are a potential mark.
They will then go into a predatory mode that is easily recognizable in other predators. If you have ever watched big cats stalk, or sharks move prior to attacking, they are moving their heads side to side. The street predators do the same and they are looking for those who might witness their acts or interrupt them. Watch for this behavior.
They may also pull their hoodies up over their heads just prior to moving toward you. It is exactly what you think it is and don’t ignore that little voice that saying, “This is a bad thing about to happen.” They will drop their heads, hide their hands, and rock side to side. This is so you can’t see their eyes, the hands they are clenching into fists, and the side to side motion is in anticipation of a sudden sucker punch as you or they pass. They prefer a haymaker style punch that utilizes a whipping action and may incorporate the forearm to the side of your head. When it connects it’s devastating.
You have to make a decision pretty quick to spoil their plans. In fact, you should have already have a plan worked out in your mind well before this happens. We call it Self Talk in police work. “If this, then this.” Been doing it on the way to calls for years, and do it outside of work as well.
Understand the thugs adapt quickly and if you make a move to avoid them, expect them to close and make some excuse to get you to drop your guard. Remember this phrase, “Uh excuse me sir, can you....(tell me what time it is, change a twenty, etc.) That phrase is a prelude to an attack. Your moving away from the ambush caused them to have to step it up, and it will appear as a rushed act. You will also notice that they are trying to look everywhere but at you, except to grab quick glances to see if you are truly looking at your watch, or cell phone, or getting your wallet out. If you pull any of those out, shame on you. They will hit you with one hand, and snatch the item with the other, and will be loping away while you are seeing stars and shredded wheat. DO NOT CHASE. It’s their turf and they can get assistance from ANYONE. And they will get it, willingly.
If you get knocked down, they will do Riverdance on your back. Getting kicked while down can most definitely cause serious physical injury, so deadly force is covered. If you are assailed by multiple individuals, again, no reasonable person can be expected to defend themselves with conventional fisticuffs, so deadly force would be a fine.
Also remember that if you choose to brandish, or even imply that you armed, do not fall for that chit eating grin they will give you, and the obligatory, “Oh alright, it’s cool dog.” This is just another attempt to get you to drop your guard, while they either move to hidden gun or draw the one they have. Get to a more defensible position.
Remember, “Officer, I was in fear for my life and the lives of my family. I had no choice, and I wish to talk to my lawyer.”
They don’t need to be “put away”, they need to be “put down”.
