TV star and wanna-be pol Alec Baldwin took some heat Wednesday for joining the anti-Wall Street protesters even though he is a television face of Capital One Bank.
Baldwin visited the Occupy Wall Street encampment at Zuccotti Park late Wednesday night, spending about two hours chatting with the protesters.
According to online videos, he spent much of it being hounded by Ron Paul fans who were annoyed he wouldn't agree the Federal Reserve should be "ended." They were also peeved he refused to endorse the Republican Texas congressman.
"I want your lips to support Ron Paul," Baldwin was told by a persistent young man who professed a complex theory about bankers assassinating John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln.
Baldwin ended up defending the banking system to the crowd.
"I don't want the capital markets to be dismantled," he said. "I think capitalism is worthwhile, and capitalism demands the flow of money."
He said he thought the biggest problem is a toothless Securities and Exchange Commission, which is supposed to regulate the financial system.
"They don't do anything. They are totally in the pocket of the banks!" Baldwin said.
"The banks are going to do what the banks do. And you want the banks to do what banks do. But when the banks [act] like they are a hockey player that starts throwing their elbow in your eye socket, you want the SEC to throw the flag. The SEC never throws the flag."
The nuance of his position was lost on critics, who called him a hypocrite on Twitter because he shills for Capital One, the nation's eighth-largest bank.
Baldwin later tweeted: "I donated all of my fee from Capital One 2 arts charities. They have been gr8 partners in my support of the arts."

Will he get fired?
He might have donated an approximate equal amount, but I don't for a minute believe he designated those specific fees as going to charity.
I seem to remember that AB was going to leave the United States if Bush was reelected.
He’s still here making a fortune off 30 Rock.
Says all I need to know about him.
Capital One is very, very bad about trying to force collections from people who were never even customers of theirs. Repeated phone calls. Letters. In two cases I know of personally, citizens had to contact the Missouri AG to get these rapscallions off their backs. Slugs. Crooks. Funny commercials, but pricks to deal with, even if you’ve never dealt with them.
Look up the definition of liberal in the dictionary and you’ll find it means hypocrite.....one and the same.
Yeah Alec, hockey flags.
Watch a lot of sports, do ya?
Can we see your receipts? Not that we think you are lying, but you are a commie lib.
Pray for America
Ron Paul's people, representin'.

What an idiot, so typical of the brainless Hollywood left! The SEC doesn’t regulate the banks, the FDIC and the Federal Reserve do. The SEC only regulates the investment banking functions and the financial market participants.
I guess I've been wrong the whole time. Ron Paul fans are good for something!
As a Capital One card holder I called last week and spoke with a supervisor regarding this issue. Her comment was that she could not comment, which I informed her was understandable. But I asked her to please pass along my feels about having their spokesmen speak out against banks. Today there is a story about old Alex going down to OWS and commenting that capitalism is good. Calling works!
And boy that label sure as hell fits. Capital One has engaged in practices over the years that could almost give one some sympathy for the hippie mobs. Almost.
The thing is, he IS a hypocrite.
Somehow, some way, they'll allow him to slither out of it.
For which not only did you avoid paying taxes that could have gone to Big Education, but so did the art house.
The kids got double-Bidened!
Wow. I had no idea Krispy Kreme was an arts charity.
He was right on this one.
Kinda sad Baldwin's on the other side - he has enough backbone to be a conservative... .
Our limo-socialists promote Marxism every waking hour in this country and then when they see it in action, they are shocked.
We have cursed by an elite class of walking, talking, amoral idiots. Political correctness is a brain drain program for the elite.
