Rick Perry revives by rattling Mitt Romney in Las Vegas debate
Politico ^ | October 19, 2011 | REID J. EPSTEIN & MAGGIE HABERMAN

Rick Perry went into Tuesday night’s debate looking to rattle Mitt Romney — and it worked.

Perry’s been under fire for his own immigration record, and resurrecting the 2007 report that Romney had hired illegal workers helped him blunt the advantage Romney had been able to get on the issue as Perry looks to recover from his collapse in the polls.

Plus, according to a Perry source, there was an added bonus: by going after Romney personally — the accusation has to do with Romney’s own house — they saw the potential to make Romney react the hardest.

And despite the headlines at the time, the issue didn’t get the attention Perry’s campaign believes it could have when it surfaced in Romney’s first run for president four years ago, and gives Perry a new opening into coming at Romney as a flip-flopper.

“This is the start of Romney vs. Romney. We’ll have him debating himself before this is over,” said one senior Perry adviser, explaining the strategy.

...That's -- I'm running for office, for Pete's sake, I can't have illegals. -- Mitt Romney, GOP presidential debate - October 18, 2011 - Las Vegas, NV

Rudy Giuliani asked Mitt Romney the same question in the 2008 CNN debate that Rick Perry asked him during the CNN 2011 debate -- Mitt lost it both times.

Nov 28, 2008 CNN-YouTube Debate: Sound familiar? [LOOK who interrupts whom!!]

Funny Accent Mitt Romney, discussing reports illegal immigrants did landscaping at his home: It would "not be American" to check workers' papers simply because they have a "funny accent." [acknowledges need for giving health care and education to illegals]

Sound familiar? Mike Huckabee, replying to Romney's criticism of providing college scholarships to children of illegal immigrants: "In all due respect, we are a better country than to punish children for what their parents did."

At the same debate: John McCain: "We must recognize these are God's children as well. ... I will enforce the borders first. But we won't demagogue it."

Perry’s barbs brought out the inner petulant and petty princess that is Mitt Romney.
Even if Rick doesn’t get the nomination we owe him for taking Mitt down a peg or two.

Watching Perry and Romney debating is like watching two High School buffoons debate over who should be elected prom king instead of POTUS.

Dumb and Dumber.

Mitt really lost his cool...and it was disproportionate to the issue.

Perry had it nailed...AND IT WAS THE TRUTH....not like the stupid N rock.

It was a cheap stunt by an inept candidate who seen his poll numbers decline as people get to know him. I’m no fan of Romney either...he needs to toughen up quite a bit. The Obama crowd will be far harder on him than that

World Wide Wrestling is more informative than the silly Left wing extremist-moderated “debates.”

NY Times, LA Times, Politico. lol! You 3%ers are desperate to find something, anything, that supports your hero's train wreck of a campaign.

Perry's campaign is still on life support. But you can call the 'revived' if you want.

A complete BS story. They cite no # to back up their premise, and only quote Perry sources. This is simply opinion masquerading as fact. They may be right, but give us no reason to believe so.

Very bad journalism.

When I saw the video of Perry take on Romney, I thought I had watched two kids fighting in a school yard fight.

It’s about time Perry took the gloves off. Milton gives him the `horse-laugh’ and then has the effrontery to put his patronizing, manicured RINO hand on his shoulder ...
If Perry won’t attack or defend himself, why should we expect him to fight for us? He should be eating Romney alive, from the ground up. Step it up, or step down.

Still believe today’s polls mean it is over for Perry?

Who was in third place in the polls this time 4 years ago in both the Republican and Democratic polls?

That would be the winners of both.

Romney acts like nobody can dispute him because HE is the standard baton barer for conservatives who can't be questioned.

He's a first class a$$hole as proved by his arrogance during the debate.

Perry brought his a$$ness down a few notches however.

Current line-up, after last night's debate, in order of preference:

Cain

Bachmann

Gingrich

Santorum

Perry

Paul

In truth, I can't imagine voting for either Perry or Paul. Paul is a loon, and Perry is dense.

Yep. people do tend to forget.

Perry will do just fine if his advisory people would let him loose.
He is a go getter when he needs to get going.

Go Perry!
