My wife and I noticed it. I believe he was referring to Cain as a “soul brother”. That was the term in the sixties.

It’s better than calling everyone, “friends.”

Are they not both fundamentalist Christians?
In Israel, that is the normal form of address among them.

As for me I thought it odd, but I ignored it. Besides he’s been called far worse and by some on this very thread.

I think I read last night here on FR someone ask that same question almost in the same identical way. hmmmm

It’s a Christian thing.
Perry was just acknowledging their bond as brothers in Christ.
As opposed to Romney that’s a non-Christian.

I think it was Perry’s way of saying to Cain - even though I’m criticizing your plan - I still think of you as a friend. I noticed he did not use the term when he criticized Romney. He was out for blood with Mitt.

Because he could not remember his name. To many letters.

I suppose it’s possible that Perry feels self conscious over “N****rhead” and that that self-consciousness impelled him to be extra affectionate toward the sole black candidate. I doubt was just a coincidence that Perry called Cain and none of the other candidates “brother.”
