Via Greg Hengler and Guy Benson, if this answer doesnt destroy him, nothing will. I get the sense watching it that hes so unsure of how to answer this exceedingly easy question that he defaults to Netanyahus position on the assumption that prisoner swaps must always be the wise, statesmanlike, conservative thing to do. The alternative, that he knows what hes talking about yet is still sincerely inclined to release the guy who planned 9/11 plus dozens upon dozens of other jihadi fanatics in exchange for one G.I., is even worse. Id bet 95 percent of people asked on the street could answer this correctly, yet somehow our frontrunner not only blows it but feels obliged to hedge weakly by noting that hed need all the facts to make a proper decision. Heres a fact: Khaled Sheikh Mohammed blew up the World Trade Center. What other facts do you need?

If he runs the country like he ran Godfather’s pizza, there may only be 40 states when he’s done.
No. But sadly, I had to actually THINK about that for a while this time.
All kinds of them. The most recent was Ike, IIRC. Many 19th and early 20th Century nominees were picked at the convention, not in primaries.
Herman Cain: "I would have to know all of the considerations he made to say yes or no because I'm sure there were a lot of considerations that he had to make to make that decision. On the surface you would say one for a hundred doesn't make any sense but here is how I make decisions and this is why I respect Benjamin Netanyahu so much. He looks at all the facts before he makes a judgment call. We don't know all the facts."
Wolf Blitzer: "Can you imagine if you were President, and we're almost out of time, uh, and there were one American soldier who had been held for years and the demand was, Al Qaeda, some other terrorist group, ya gotta free every prisoner at Guantanimo Bay, several hundred prisoners at Guantanimo, could you see yourself as President authorizing that kind of transfer?"
Herman Cain: "I could see myself authorizing that kind of transfer but what I would do is make sure I got all of the information, got all of the input, all of the options and then the President has to be the President and make a judgment call. I could make that call if I had to."
Not that anyone here would try and take something out of context or anything ...
Pure and simple.
Why do Repubs always get these possible career ending questions and Democraps don’t? yea, yea, I know
I like Sarah, and know she is one smart cookie. But there is also the possibility that she might not be at her best on that debate stage. Having watched her debates and Perry’s, I know she would not be stumbling around like Rick is now. Still, there is a good chance that her answer would be the same as Herman’s. In fact it is, the same as: do we risk all of our lives for the sake of that one guy. If I were that same guy, I would like to know that they would. Only proviso: does it compromise the mission?

If he says 50, the MSM will find a way to prove him wrong.
If he tosses NY,NJ,CA,WA,OR,IL,MN,MD,DE,and MA I am good with that.
What part of “draft” don’t you understand, troublemaking $#*+-stirrer? Oh, and thanks for comparing my to a guy who is **this** close to a nervous breakdown.
Are you someone’s cousin? How do you keep from getting zotted? And is there a good reason that you didn’t ping The_Wizard, as is custom here when you mention someone? You’ve been here over 10 years, you know better than that.
If he says 50, the MSM will find a way to prove him wrong.
No, Herman Cain would say first he needs to gather all the facts... consult with historians and geographers, Maybe consult all 50 Governors, and with his panel of experts he will surround himself with... before answering such a controversial question as "how many States in the Union".
“I could see myself authorizing that kind of transfer but what I would do is make sure I got all of the information, got all of the input, all of the options and then the President has to be the President and make a judgment call. I could make that call if I had to.”
Read what Cain said. It’s about as political as a person can get and still keep their common sense.
I think it’s you who doesn’t have the discipline to avoid making dumb posts.
I have been a Sarah Palin fan for almost 4 years now and also hoped she would be our next President. That said, I dont want a President that does not want to be there and feels she has a higher priority currently (as a father of 3 I agree, Family needs to be put first). I knew she would not run unless she almost knew she could win, there is still too many percieved negatives on her and too many that wont vote for her. Maybe in 4 or 8 years, her young family will be a little older and she will have even more good name recognition and still be our first female President.
I heard his comments then heard Hugh Hewitt (Romney-bot) bashing Cain.
Cain’s approach is as a business man. Gather information and advice, think it through and then decide.
i agree that we should not negotiate with terrorists. But it’s not always black and white. What if the kidnapped soldier was Patreaus? What if it was 10 or 100 soldiers? Lots of circumstances and strategy. Easy for us to be monday morning quarterbacks.
I would like to know who his advisers are......wouldn't you? He has claimed that it's just all him. If so, that's not good. Oh, it's fine for someone NOT running to be the GOP nominee/ president, but NOT for someone who is! And WHY has he done nothing at all to bone up on foreign events/history?
I’m a Cain supporter but I give my grudging respect for Sarah.
Many said Nixon (1960) and Reagan (1976) were finished...too many negatives and such, but they proved the critics wrong. But it took time in the wilderness and lots of IOUs (stumping, endorsing, fund raising for others) to get on a better track.
I wish her well and I eagerly await her endorsements. If any of her endorsements are local, I’ll be sending a check and supporting them whenever I can.
Oddly, this post is lacking what he actually said, and the headline distorts his response, which essentially said that he’d consult experts, and would not take any option off the table until getting their advice.
Do you believe we have a viable, achievable and justifiable mission there?
Did you read number 44?
Pan transcribed the entire comment from the interview.
