Massachusetts Tries to Rein In Its Health Costs (Mass. government choking on Romneycare®)
The New York Times ^ | 2011-10-18 | Abby Goodnough & Kevin Sack

BOSTON — On the Republican campaign trail, the health care debate has focused on the mandatory coverage that Mitt Romney signed into law as governor in 2006. But back in Massachusetts the conversation has moved on, and lawmakers are now confronting the problem that Mr. Romney left unaddressed: the state’s spiraling health care costs.

After three years of study, the state’s legislative leaders appear close to producing bills that would make Massachusetts the first state — again — to radically revamp the way doctors, hospitals and other health providers are paid.

Although important details remain to be negotiated, the legislative leaders and Gov. Deval Patrick, all Democrats, are working toward a plan that would encourage flat “global payments” to networks of providers for keeping patients well, replacing the fee-for-service system that creates incentives for excessive care by paying for each visit and procedure.

flat “global payments” to networks of providers for keeping patients well

Ah, yes.... "Health Maintenance".

There is no evidence - NONE - that there are any net benefits to be derived from "health maintenance", a/k/a. "keeping patients well".

This is the most durable of all the politically-charged scams around the push to socialize medicine.

FSA's get cut back from $5,000 to $2,500 next year under Oboingocare, wait until those from Mass that rely on it finally get this...

A major Auto manufacture who shall rename nameless ( who didn't take a bailout ) just cut Blue-Care-Network off their options, PPO's and HMO's only, I wonder if that is in response to Obamacare coming...

BOHICA America....

And once all the doctors are told they are now employees of the state, drawing a salary and forever capping their lifetime earning potential, how many will want to stay? Predictable result is fewer doctors, waiting periods, rationed care. Great idea, thanks Mitt!

Congratulations Mitt! You’ve created the first statewide HMO! What an achievement for a conservative (cough, cough!), uhh, liberal.

Romneycare was bad enough as it started out. Deval added mandatory drug coverage which increased the cost about 30%.

how many will want to stay?

I predict that once the exodus begins, the state will then force many of them to stay, either by refusing to pay for their malpractice tail insurance, or requiring grads of Massachusetts medical training programs to work off the "public contribution" to their education (you know, a la Elisabeth Warren: "You got medical training in Massachussets? Good for you! But I want to be clear....")

Perhaps an “underground railroad” will spring up to smuggle out MA health care workers that their political masters have deemed to be indentured servants of the state? I guess it's the least we could do to help the medical professional victims of RomneyCare. The rest of MA . . . sorry, but ya’ll are sooo screwed.

Ah sweet federalism. The one good thing Romney’s done for the country is conclusively prove that socialized medicine doesn’t work.

Y’all should read the comments at the article. Most are insane postings by uberliberals who think everything in life should be “free”. Well, if they get their way, medical care will be “free”. The only problem is that they won’t be able to find any of that free medical care.

The comments there make you wonder (1) how did so many people get the idea that socialized medicine, and socialism/collectivism is the way to go, and (2) if that opinion is held by 50% of the voting population, you can write off the Constitution and freedom.

Deval added mandatory drug coverage which increased the cost about 30%.

Just wait until they add mandatory sex change surgery coverage to appeal to the transgender lobby.

SURE it does. We all know that as long as you do routine maintenance on your car, it will never break-down. /S
