Zachary Quinto, best known for his roles as Sylar in the TV series "Heroes" and Spock in 2009's Star Trek film, has come out as a gay man. Until now, Zachary has never publicly spoken about his sexual orientation, but opens up about being "a gay man" in a new interview with New York Magazine.
Quinto just wrapped up an eight-month run in the NYC stage revival of "Angels in America", and called the experience an eye-opener. He called his work in the off-Broadway play the "most challenging thing I've ever done as an actor, and the most rewarding."
He added:
"At the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like there's still so much work to be done, and there's still so many things that need to be looked at and addressed."
Later on in the interview, Quinto discussed same sex marriages and the suicide of bullied gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer.
Quinto continued:
"And again, as a gay man I look at that and say theres a hopelessness that surrounds it. But as a human being I look at it and say 'Why? Where's this disparity coming from, and why can't we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?' We're terrified of facing ourselves."
While Zachary has played a series of gay roles, he has in the past refused to comment on his sexuality.
This is going to be a PR nightmare in the fan circles.
Though shepard smith will be giddy with excitement and will lead with the story since it concerns homosexuals.
If, as the gay lobby claims, to be gay is to be normal, then why do gay celebrities seek and receive attention for same?
Did George Clooney announce his heterosexuality?
He can carry on in the tradition of George Takei.
I thought all Vulcan’s were gay anyway
Oh sorry ,you mean real life LOL
Now he will even be more popular at the Star Trek Convention.
This is going to be a PR nightmare in the fan circles.Do you really think the average Trek fan is going to care?
Assuming you are a Trek fan, did you stop watching the original series and first eight movies because the actor playing Sulu came out of the closet?
I am eagerly awaiting the next movie, regardless of the sexual orientation of the actors involved.
And the importance of his sexuality is... what?
His ears were pointy without appliances.
As far as I can tell, Every movie star is gayeven if they sleep with the opposite sex.
There is a reason why an actor will date for forty years straight and never marry.
He’s more likely to denounce than announce.
I missed that. Which movie was it?
“He’s gay, Jim.”
Umm...no it won’t, if anything you used specious reasoning at it’s worse. The quality of the movie does not equal the quality of its actors and vice versa. The movie in question sucked and was panned before it ever hit theaters. Anne Heche also went straight, and guess what? It did not improve her acting abilities or stardom one iota. Beyond that I would hazard a guess that most Star Trek fans are to the center or further left and something like this will have zero effect on the Box Office except for people who can’t separate themselves from there own personal disagreements.
“He’s gay, Jim.”
remember the harrison ford movie where his lady love interest came out just before the movie opened? nobody does. it died at the box officeThat couldn't have been because it was a bad movie?
George Clooney is a hetero? Well maybe he should have announced it.
