Two of three New Yorkers support 'Occupy Wall Street' protesters

New York City voters side with the 'Occupy Wall Street' protesters by a 3-to-1 margin, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Sixty-seven percent of 1,068 registered voters side with those who've called Manhattan's Zuccotti Park their base for one month.

Eighty-seven percent of those surveyed say it is "okay that they are protesting," the poll found.

"It's a free country. Let them keep on protesting as long as they obey the law, New Yorkers say overwhelmingly," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"Critics complain that no one can figure out what the protesters are protesting.

But seven out of 10 New Yorkers say they understand and most agree with the anti-Wall Street views of the protesters.

Voters split 46 - 45 percent in their approval of the way police are handling the Wall Street protest, according to Quinnipiac.

"For a while, the critics focused on the cops' use of pepper spray at the protests, " Carroll said. "Voters are divided on how police are handling the protesters, but they say almost 2-to-1 that police are doing a good job overall."

A majority of New York City voters -- 61-28 percent, including 55 percent of Republicans -- support an extension of the state's so-called 'Millionaire's Tax.' Seventy-three percent support Wall Street reform, including tougher government regulation of banks and Wall Street firms.

"New Yorkers, even Republicans, back the Wall Street protesters on at least two things they're talking about, a get-tough attitude toward banks and Wall Street and continuation of the state's 'Millionaire's Tax,'" Carroll said.

The protests have been going on since Sept. 17. There have been many arrests since the start. On Friday, the owner of the park postponed an announced cleaning that would have forced the protesters to leave temporarily.

Many of these same people feel that Mr. Obama is too conservative.

course they do, ever wa5ch their local media, it's just as biased and one sided as the Boston media when I was up there. They ignore so much on what is really going on and then cover for their messiah. I was shocked to see just how bad the local media is around the country but up in the north east I'm surprised that there are any people who are conservative . Which shows that conservatives up there , but the full conservative has a brain and can think for themselves

New Yorkers are just insane.

They deserve any fate that comes their way, at this point.

Maybe Wall Street and the banks should move out of NY, since New Yorkers oppose them so much.

Looks like it is time to make the movie the real thing. Just chop down the bridges and plug the tubes.

I was thinking that same thing yesterday. Move to a red state. They'll be glad to have those jobs plus all the money that would be spent in their states.

***New Yorkers, even Republicans, back the Wall Street protesters on at least two things they’re talking about, a get-tough attitude toward banks and Wall Street and continuation of the state’s ‘Millionaire’s Tax,’” Carroll said.***

Amazing how so many ‘little people’ still don’t realize that they are the ones who pay the price for sticking it to the ‘man’. Every time and usually with interest.

Absolutely amazing that the majority of New Yorkers support unions, Marxists, Maoist, would wear a Che T-shirt and think socialism is grand. Man, would The Founders ever turn over in their graves. Don't New Yorkers remember the battle of New York and Washington's lucky retreat from Long Island? Oh, I forgot, none of them ever bothered to learn early American History.

They should all read "1776." . . Great book BTW. . . From an Amazon review: "Esteemed historian David McCullough covers the military side of the momentous year of 1776 with characteristic insight and a gripping narrative, adding new scholarship and a fresh perspective to the beginning of the American Revolution."

The fog saved us during the retreat. . That's all I'll say or it will be too much.

New Yorkers have softened their minds with a lifestyle steeped in liberalism. I wonder how far down the scale they have gone. Any hopes of resuscitation?
